Garden Street Safety Improvement Project

Installation to Begin October 24

Porter Mobile.jpg

Thank you for your interest in the Garden Street Safety Improvement Project!

We will begin to install changes on Garden Street on Monday, October 24, if weather permits. As part of this project:

  • Part of Garden Street (between Huron Avenue and Concord Avenue) will become one-way eastbound (toward Cambridge Common/Harvard Square).
  • We will add separated bike lanes in both directions between Huron Avenue and Mason/Berkeley Street.
  • We will improve crosswalks.
  • We will make changes to parking and loading.

Visit our project page for more details

Timeline

It will take about one week after we begin installation to put up new signals, update metal street signs, and add major markings on the road. We will add bicycle stencils, flex posts, and colored surface treatments in November.

Parking Restrictions

Temporary parking restrictions will be in place during this work. We will post signs with these restrictions at least 48 hours in advance.

One-Way Conversion

The section of Garden Street between Huron Avenue and Concord Avenue will change from two-way for people driving to one-way. We expect this change to occur the evening of Monday, October 24, if weather permits us to make changes to major road markings.

We will inform people driving about this change with large message boards near the project area, and with temporary orange barrel drums with clear signage.
