Message from President Sara Beacham
Greetings!

Have you ever had the feeling of what am I forgetting? Like when you're packing for a trip, or taking the nephew to his first soccer game, or your to-do list is a mile long that you just know you have left something off?

Welcome to my world! I had a great evening and first day of soccer for my nephew a few weeks ago. And a bonus, I got to see my other nieces and nephew out at 20th Street Park too. What a great morning!

With that though, I realized that my time management this past week was lousy. I felt like no matter how many to-do lists I made, I was still forgetting something. I found myself cleaning the house or doing the dishes instead of working on my list, which led to more feelings of forgetfulness. I had to remind myself this morning that it is okay to forget things. It is okay to stop, breathe, and watch something cute and happy on tv. (Seen UP! this weekend or anything on Disney or Ted Lasso. LOVE!)

How does this story of forgetfulness play into our volunteer lives? Well, I was so over consumed by forgetting things I didn't know I was forgetting and trying to get homework done so I could cross something off my list, that I forgot (or just plain on purpose skipped) answering emails for a while and skipped my workout. I felt a little down because I knew I needed it, physically and mentally, but I allowed myself some grace because I was literally running all over the park from soccer field to soccer field and back again, that I got plenty of exercise yesterday and the emails were not going away.

Today, a new week begins. Things are getting checked off the list. Dogs are getting walked and I am heading to the gym within the hour and scheduling an hour to answer emails. Suddenly, I feel a lot better.

How are you managing overwhelm? How do you cope with the never-ending to-do list? What do you do when you miss your workout?

Enjoy your week of committee meetings; next week we are dark.

See you on Wednesday!

President Sara

SUDS Sept. 16, 2021 Recap
by: Val Bowlby

20 ladies showed up to the SUDS meeting at Almendra Winery and Distillery in Durham. How nice it was to be able to just visit with each other!!! A few came from our Bidwell Rancho Club, too. Chef Ann graciously came out of the kitchen a couple of times to say “Hi”. She was so glad we had come. Her outstanding food was ordered by all….the peach pizza was terrific, the Margarita one too, and there’s just no better Caesar Salad in all of Chico! We also devoured the Brussels sprouts, bacon wrapped prawns and beautiful stuffed/flash broiled peaches. The ladies were drinking everything from beer to champagne. And in response to our program on “raw milk”, we had a raw milk & cookies tasting table. Yum. Watch for our next SUDS meeting in October.

From SI Objectives Committee: Get excited SI Chico for this years’ Member of the Month, we have added a twist and will feature our fur babies too. It will be fun to learn a little more about our members via their pets.

September SI Chico Fur Baby (and Member) of the Month!

To kickoff the year, we are pleased to introduce the club to Carhartt and Cruz, President Sara’s fur babies. Carhartt is a terrier mix and is almost 4 years old. She loves to steal empty water bottles from the recycling bin at the gym where she is often an assistant trainer. Carhartt’s new brother is Cruz. Cruz is a 3-year-old Boxer rescue who joined the family at the end of April. Cruz has made the adjustment from the beach in Santa Cruz to Chico. He loves to swim, play and be right next to his people all day long. These two have a sweet life with Sara and Nick, getting walked daily, lots of treats and toys and endless love.

Beside being a dog lover, our SI Chico President Sara keeps busy with many things. She owns two businesses, B Fit, a personal training gym and 25th Hour, a bookkeeping and payroll firm. She is a newly minted Wildcat, starting a graduate program in Kinesiology this fall. In her free time (what free time?!), she trains for future bodybuilding competitions, spends time with her hubby, family and friends and rewatches her favorite shows, Grey’s Anatomy and Friends. She is a longtime Soroptimist and is passionate about making a difference in the lives of women and girls. We woof you President Sara!
