BALIF's New Lawyers Committee is accepting applications for the 2021-2022 Mentorship Program! BALIF's incredibly successful mentorship program is back and we're hoping to recruit eager law students, post-bar graduates, and lawyers of every experience level to receive mentorship from a wide array of legal backgrounds and life experiences. As any lawyer will tell you, mentoring is an integral part to any professional's success in their career.
If you are interested in applying to be either a mentee or mentor (or both if you're a practicing lawyer!), please follow the links to the appropriate application (all responses are confidential, and the entire application can be completed in 5 minutes). Applications will close Thursday, September 30th, and pairings will be released at BALIF's Annual Mentor/Mentee Happy Hour, which will take place in October. Please check your email and the BALIF newsletter for updates. If anyone has any questions, feel free to reach out to Monica Valencia or Myell Mergaert at newlawyers@balif.org.

BALIF's 2021 Halloween Fundraiser
Benefiting Pacific Center for Human Growth
|
|
Thursday, October 28, 2021
6pm- 7:30pm | Virtual Event
|
|
BALIF invites you to purchase a ticket or, even better, sponsor our upcoming Halloween fundraiser. BALIF is throwing a Halloween fundraising extravaganza for the Pacific Center for Human Growth on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm on Zoom.
This year’s honoree is doing great work for the queer community. The Pacific Center has a mission to enhance the mental health and overall well-being of the LGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC communities by providing culturally responsive therapy, peer to peer support groups, community outreach services, and facilitated workshops. Founded in 1973, The Pacific Centeris the oldest LGBTQIA+ center in the Bay Area, the third oldest in the nation, and operates the only sliding scale mental health clinic for LGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC people and their families in Alameda County. More information can be found on their website at http://www.pacificcenter.org/.
To continue its great work, The Pacific Center needs your help. Please consider sponsoring the event. We have sponsorship levels with awesome benefits at the $1,000, $500, $250 and $150 levels.
Every dollar you donate will go to The Pacific Center. BALIF is covering the cost of the event. If you have any questions, please email activism@balif.org.

The Judicial Diversity Summit has been held every five years since 2006 to assess the efforts to increase judicial diversity in California, and to make recommendations for future activities and initiatives to diversify the judiciary.
This year the summit will be titled Stronger Together: Judicial Diversity Summit 2021, and will be held remotely on three Tuesday evenings on September 14, 21 and 28.
Leading up to the Summit, we will be hosting a series of events in August & September. On August 4th at 5 pm join us for a kickoff fireside chat, Judicial Diversity Yesterday, which will reflect on the progress made over the past 15 years. Additional weekly educational sessions, planned by affinity associations, will address different facets of the pathway to the bench.

Be one of 10-15 volunteers by October 31,2021
in the Host Homes Program
|
|
October 31, 2021
Volunteer Deadline
|
|
Do you live in SF and have a spare bedroom or private space that can be turned into a bedroom? The San Francisco LGBT Center's Host Homes Program matches San Francisco volunteer hosts with young adults (ages 18 to 24) who need stable housing for a period of three months to one year. During this time, the young adult pursues their education and employment goals alongside support from our case management team, and is then positioned to find their own housing after the program period ends. The young adult participants have previously experienced unstable housing situations like couch surfing, sleeping in cars, and living in non-affirming households.

Remember, BALIF offers deeply discounted memberships for unemployed attorneys. During this time, we think community is especially important, and we intend to continue offering the networking opportunities that our members depend upon.
