Adopt A Pet from the Lassen

County Animal Shelter – Mochi

Where are our bully lovers? There is currently a handful down at the Lassen County Animal Shelter and as it turns out, bullies have the toughest time finding new homes. So meet Mochi.

Mochi’s a big boy with lots of love to give and he’s looking for someone to treat him like the star he is. He likes getting outside, but the colder weather lately has been making it harder for him to get a break from indoor kennel life. He yearns for a home, a yard to call his own, and a fire he can lay in front of while his person is watching TV.

Okay, maybe he’d like to sit on the couch with his person and binge-watch some juicy reality show, all while chewing on his favorite stuffed toy. So long as he’s part of the family activities, Mochi is a happy guy.

It’s unknown if Mochi is dog friendly, but so far he’s responded well to other dogs he’s been paired next to in the outdoor runs. Further testing and evaluations will be done to determine how he reacts nose-to-nose with other dog friends. Mochi is a little over a year and a half old and he’ll be neutered/brought up to date on his vaccinations prior to adoption. If interested in meeting Mochi, please contact Lassen County Animal Shelter staff at (530) 257-9200.

Additional: If there are dogs already in the home, it is suggested that potential adopters bring them to the shelter to do a meet and greet with the new dog.

Featured animals at the Lassen County Animal Shelter are available for adoption on a first-come-first-serve basis. According to California law, all adoptable dogs and cats must be spayed and neutered before leaving our facility. If interested in adopting an animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Current shelter hours during the COVID-19 pandemic are Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Closed Saturday and Sunday. You can contact the shelter at 257-9200.

Lassen County Fair and Livestock Show in 1940 ~ From an Eastman Studios photo

Lassen Fair Will Be Held

No Conflict Seen with Defense Rules

February 27, 1942

The Lassen County Livestock Show and rodeo, for years one of the biggest attractions in this area, will be held this year as originally planned, unless a conflict with military regulations should be unexpectedly arise, the advisory committee announced here today.

It had been feared previously that the fair might have been cancelled because of conflict with defense regulations on the Pacific coast.

The recommendation that the fair be presented as usual will be made to the county board of supervisors at the next regular meeting. The board already has given its stamp of approval to tentative plans for the show.

Tentative dates set for the fair by the committee in charge are August 19-23.

The decision to hold the big show came after members of the advisory committee attended a meeting of the directors of twenty-three northern California fairs at Marysville last Saturday. It was disclosed at the time that the staging of the smaller shows would conflict with none of the defense regulations prescribed for the area by army officials, and it was recommended that wherever [possible the county fairs be held.

Definite plans for the Lassen show will be made this Saturday at a meeting of the directors of the Quincy, McArthur, Cedarville, Lakeview and Lassen shows here. A premium list best suited for all represented fairs also will be drawn at the time.
