MAHOGANY BOOKS IS A “MUST READ” FOR PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY
Meet Ramunda and Derrick Young, co-owners and founders of Mahogany Books in The National Harbor, Maryland. Even though the Youngs opened their Prince George’s County location in July of 2021 they have been supplying books to avid readers for over 14 years.
Prior to opening their current location, Mahogany books has hosted “book related” events all over the DMV and especially in Prince George’s County, Maryland. These events ranged from presenting new authors, to book fairs at area parks, to their signature event “Books for the block” where they have given away over 1,000 books to children in our community.
Despite opening in the middle of the pandemic, COVID-19 actually helped Mahogany Books gain customers. According to the Youngs, people were tired of being online all the time and needed an escape from their daily routines. Ramunda went on to remind us that despite multiple industries shifting to digital platforms, printed books are here to stay and have been growing in demand over the last several years.
What separates Mahogany Books from most of their competitors is the wide range of genres and authors they promote. Mahogany Books believes in giving all authors a chance to release their manuscripts. They have worked with brand new local authors as well as world renowned authors such as Walter Mosley and Jason Reynolds. The way they have promoted authors has led Mahogany Books to being chosen by top politicians such as Congressman John Lewis and former President Barrack Obama to promote their biographies. They even had Karyn Parsons (Hillary Banks from the Fresh Prince) choosing Mahogany Books.
Whether you are just getting into reading books, read between ten to fifteen books every year, or joining the “Black Books Matter” movement Mahogany Books should be your first stop. Please visit them at their new location in the National Harbor or online via www.mahoganybooks.com .
