PRELUDE Down in the River to Pray traditional Grace Notes/Amanda Porter, soprano
* CALL TO WORSHIP
Thank you, Lord, for the people gathering around
us today. Let us take this time to give thanks for these things
of the earth that give us the means of life.
Thank you for the plants, animals, and birds that
we use as food and medicine.
Thank you for the natural world in which we find
the means to be clothed and housed.
Thank you, Lord, for the ability to use these gifts
of the natural world.
Help us to see our place among these gifts not to
squander them or think of them as means for selfish gain.
May we respect the life of all you have made.
May our Spirit be strengthened by using only what we
need and may we use our strength to help those who need us.
* HYMN For the Healing of the Nations 428 UMH
* A READING FROM THE GOSPEL Luke 5:1-11
This is the Word of God for the People of God.
Thanks be to God!

MESSAGE
MUSICAL RESPONSE From Shallow Waters Call Us, Lord
Text:
From shallow waters call us, Lord, from safety near the shore,
And bid us launch upon the depths where faith is tested more.
Let not past failures hope destroy, nor caution paralyze,
But help us follow where you lead and wait for Love’s surprise.
We dare to launch on unknown seas and cast our nets abroad,
For you have bid us grasp by faith the promises of God.
O Christ, you crossed the same wide seas you send us now to sail;
Be present when we reach the depths with strength that does not fail!
Words: Herman Stuempfle Jr. (1923-2007)
Music: Kingsfold, Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958)
CONFESSION & ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Giver of Life, in the midst of a plundered earth we groan with creation:
Have mercy on us.
Giver of Life, in the midst of poisoned waters we
groan with creation:
Have mercy on us.
Giver of Life, in the midst of polluted air we groan
with creation:
Have mercy on us.
Giver of Life, in the midst of mountains of waste
we groan with creation:
Have mercy on us.
Giver of Life, in the midst of the world at war, and
because of the Church’s sinful participation in the Doctrine
of Discovery and Manifest Destiny, we groan with creation;
Have mercy on us.
Giver of Life, we who are made in the image of
God have gone astray. Attitudes of conquest and greed
harm us all. Creation groans with us.
Have mercy on us.
SILENCE
Thank you, Lord, for all that you have given us. Thank you for the beauty of the universe that you created: the trees, the sky, the mountains, the rain. All things hold beauty in themselves, and all are related and touch each universe on earth. You created the rhythm
and pattern of the universe in a harmony of movement, sight, and sound. Help us to appreciate your creation and to live with our eyes, ears, and hearts open to your message. Amen.

INVITATION TO OFFERING & CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS
OFFERTORY PRAYER
Generous God, as we gather to offer our tithes and offerings, we are reminded of the words of the apostle John about the Word of life. Just as your Word brings light into our lives, may our giving be an act of generosity, a reflection of the abundance of your grace and love. We thank you for the forgiveness and grace offered through your Son, Jesus Christ, and as we give, may we also steward these gifts wisely for the betterment of your kingdom. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
You are indeed holy, O God, the fountain of all holiness; you bring light from darkness, life from death, speech from silence. We worship you for our lives and for the world you give us.
And so we praise you, with all the company of saints and sinners, singing your unending hymn:
Holy, holy, holy God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full of your glory
Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest!
Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest!
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, gave thanks, broke it and gave it to his disciples saying, Take and eat, this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper he took the cup, gave thanks and gave it for all to drink saying, this cup is the new covenant in my blood shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest!
We thank you for the new world to come and for the love that will rule all in all. Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us:
LORD’S PRAYER
AMEN RESPONSE: Amen, amen, amen. Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest!
