Education Foundation Awards Scholarships
The HBAV Education Foundation awarded three grants this fall:

Valley Career and Technical Center - supported by Augusta HBA
Funding for Discovering Building Trades Through a Week Peek - students who are undecided about their future will be given the opportunity to explore four different building trade areas and earn their OSHA 10 card during this 5 week after school program.

Build Smart Institute - supported by Roanoke Regional HBA
Funding four student scholarships to the CORE Fundamentals of Construction Program for Workforce Development and Successions - students will learn regionally relevant construction knowledge and skills competencies.

Scholarship for Career & Technical Center Students - Augusta HBA
Augusta HBA will establish a Jack Todd Memorial Scholarship to encourage Valley Career & Technical Center students to continue with their chosen trade.

HBAV Approves Strategic Plan
Mission: HBAV supports and advances the building industry that provides housing for Virginians.

Vision: To be an indispensable resource for housing professionals and businesses in Virginia.

HBAV Build PAC
  • HBAV BuildPAC recorded a 97% (75 out of 77) success rate in supporting candidates for election to the Virginia General Assembly during the fall 2021 elections
  • BuildPAC shows elected leaders that our industry is mobilized and engaged in politics and policy.
  • In 2021, just 5% of members made a voluntary contribution to HBAV Build PAC.
  • Support pro-housing candidates and help us deliver your message in Richmond.

Wetland Permitting - Status Updated
During the week of November 15, 2021, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) began reissuing the 16 Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 404 nationwide permits (NWPs) that it suspended during the week of November 1, 2021. On November 24, 2021, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) confirmed USACE’s action.

Fight President Biden's New Lumber Tariffs
On November 24th, the US Commerce Department DOUBLED (9% to 17.9%) the tariffs on imports of softwood lumber from Canada. This comes at a time when lumber prices are still well above pre-pandemic prices, meaning this ill-advised decision by the Biden Administration to double tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber will only make matters worse for your businesses and customers.

HBAV's Partnership with PEG
HBAV has partnered with PEG to provide blower door testing for our members at a competitive rate. The updated version of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code will require that all new homes pass a blower door test to achieve a building envelope tightness of 5 air changes per hour or less.
With this partnership, we will provide on-site blower door test trainings across Virginia. Contact us if you'd like to have a training come to your area!
