SEPTEMBER 2021
Community-Based Big of the Month
Tell us about your Little:
My little is Aiden and he is 12 years old. Aiden also has a little brother named Camden. Aiden likes to play soccer and is involved in acting and the theater.

Favorite part of being a Big:
My favorite part of being a big brother is listening to his ideas and seeing him smile.

Why did you want to become a Big?
I wanted to be a Big to help make a positive impact on my Little’s life and be someone he can talk with.

Thank you for being a wonderful mentor, Alrie!

A BIG thank you to A Champion's Shoe (ACS) for donating shoes to our children as they head back to school.

ACS is a non-profit organization focused on creating champions one pair of shoes at a time. Their mission is to support children who cannot get new shoes to keep up with their growth and sports demands.

THANK YOU!

Because of YOU, we raised more than $9,000 during the 2021 Rock Family of Companies Community Challenge!

Your kindness and generosity allow us to continue creating and supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.
This month young people across the nation are returning to a traditional in-person classroom setting for the first time in over a year and a half. After months of social isolation, disconnection from support systems, and inequitable virtual learning environments, our goal is to ensure all kids have the support and confidence they need to thrive during a critical school year.

#ItTakesAVillage to empower every young person with the access and opportunity they need to achieve their fullest potential.

All month, we’re celebrating and calling upon our youth, parents, partners, donors, and advocates to be part of the village empowering children in our community. Please use hashtags #ItTakesAVillage and #BBBSMonth when sharing on social media to spread awareness.

Everyone, meet Melissa Boyle. Melissa is the Events Manager at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas (BBBSCC), and we are excited to spotlight her this month!

Melissa Boyle is responsible for all signature fundraising events, her responsibilities include planning and executing each event, working with vendors and volunteers, and most importantly ensuring that everyone has a great experience.

Following her graduation from Boston University, Melissa worked in the corporate world as a graphic designer and art director before staying home with her children for several years. Her first position back into the workforce was working with adults with disabilities, and it's here that she fell in love with the non-profit world. This work fulfilled her on a personal level in a way that no previous job ever had, and she knew she wanted to continue to work in the non-profit world.

Melissa appreciates that the staff at BBBSCC are intelligent, passionate, helpful, and reliable. One of her most memorable moments at BBBSCC recently occurred while working on a video. It was during this experience that she was impressed with the meaning and impact of a match relationship on such a personal level. She found the Littles to be bright and articulate. This experience gave her renewed hope for the mission of the work we do at BBBSCC. Melissa shared a fond memory from her childhood as one of five children. Every Sunday morning, her parents packed their Jeep with the kids, food, and the grill and drove to a remote beach on Cape Cod where they would spend the entire day from sun-up to sun-down. What a wonderful childhood experience this was!

Please join us in congratulating Melissa as our BBBSCC Spotlight Employee of the Month!
