Masking Update from the Superintendent

Dear Northwood Families,

At this time, the building impact is minimal and the 7-Day total PCR day positivity rate is below 10% in the Northwood Community. Per the Northwood School District 2021-2022 Reopening Plan (approved on September 8, 2021) masks will be optional in the Northwood School starting on October 25. This will be reevaluated by the Superintendent and the Northwood School Covid Response Team on October 29, 2021, or prior if there are spikes in local numbers. Per NHDHHS, face masks are still recommended for people who want maximal protection for themselves or others. If you have any questions about the plan, you can view it on the Northwood School website.

Sincerely,

Nate Byrne

Superintendent of Schools

Please note: Masks continue to be required on school buses.

Celebrate the Season!

Next Friday, October 29, we encourage students and staff to celebrate the season by wearing black and orange or other seasonal attire. Clothing featuring spiders, bats, black cats, etc. is encouraged! We do request that students not wear Halloween costumes to school.

Getting Back to Basics

Hello Northwood families!

We are two months into our school year and let me tell you, it has been moving at warp speed! Students are navigating a school year that appears like a “traditional year” but as we know, is not. Our 2020-2021 school year came with many new endeavors never experienced before, causing a lot of new emotions to be felt. It can be daunting to try to make sense of how all these new experiences impacted us. I know for me, I try to get back to the basics when there is a plethora of information to absorb. So, you’re probably wondering how this applies to you as well as your child(ren). We all have reactions to events whether they are familiar or not, and some of these reactions may be large or small; it really depends on the person. What I have found helps sometimes is understanding the origin of these reactions, specifically, how our brain filters them. I found some really interesting (at least I think they are) resources showing the human brain, explanations of which part of our brain controls what basic emotions, and some basic skills to help make sense of our reactions no matter the size. I hope you all find this as exciting and enjoyable to learn about as I do!

Title I Math News

Greetings Lakers from Title 1 Math! In our small groups this week third grade has started our days with 3 digit subtraction to solve how many days of school we have left. First grade has been exploring the communitive property of addition "making sandwiches" with cuisenaire rods. Second grade has been busy with place value rods and how they break apart to make a 3 digit number in a different way. Fourth graders are challenging their brains by solving problems using charts. Kindergarten has been focused on numbers 0-5, identifying, writing, and which is more/less. MATH IS AWESOME! ~Ms. Scott

Kindergarten News

Thank you to our wonderful bus drivers! Ms. T. and Ms. Smith taught the kindergarteners how to be safe on the school bus. We know it’s important to sit in the seat back to back and bottom to bottom, to have a quiet voice, and keep our backpack on our lap. We even practiced how to cross the road safely! We are very excited to show off our bus safety knowledge!

From the Technology Director

Beginning October 24th, All New Hampshire residents will be required to dial the full 10 digit phone number to make calls.  This is being done to enable the new 988 function National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline.  Starting on Sunday, Oct. 24th, if you fail to enter the complete 10 digit phone number, you will get a message that the call cannot be completed.  This seems to also affect texting as well.  Please make sure that your contacts on your device contain the complete 10 digit number.
