RECAP

Navy Hall of Fame Coach William "Loc" Vetter Passes Away

Navy Women Place Second At West Chester 7s

We start this week on a somber note as Hall of Fame Coach "Loc" Vetter passed away earlier this week. Coach Vetter was a charismatic, inspiring and legendary rugby coach that will be dearly missed. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this tough time.

The Navy Women closed out the West Chester 7s with a second place last weekend! They dominated their first few games before dropping a close back and forth final!

The Men were busy prepping for their home playoff match this weekend. Remember, the NRAA tailgate is back in action for the playoff home match this Saturday, April 5th. Make sure you come out and #packtheprusmack! Email navyrugbyalumnioutreach@gmail.com if you will be in town and want to help out with the tailgate. We need folks to hang out, meet other alumni, and have a great time. Pretty easy job 'working!'

PREVIEW

Unfortunately, the women will not be participating in the Princeton 7s this weekend and will have a bye. The women will be sending a development side up to Penn State this weekend for some 15s action.

The #2 men host #7 Penn State Nittany Lions this weekend in the first round of CRAA D1A Playoffs. The Nittany Lions always play Navy tough, so come out and bring the energy to the men for their playoff run. Kick off starts at noon easter time. Some notes for the weekend:

  1. There is the possibility of rain on Saturday. Come prepared. Migs is only bringing 1 tent. It will house the tv for live streaming the playoff. First come first serve on the seating. If you live in the area and can bring a pop up, it would be appreciated.
  2. We will have limited medical supplies but we will have a medical person on staff (Doc) If you need to be taped, please bring some with you.
  3. Migs have two cases of water for the match.
  4. Army has invited the BOBs to play with them. If we don't have numbers, it could be another long day. Drink responsibly Friday night so guys can have a rest on Saturday.
  5. Dress respectfully for Sunday as we are honoring the fallen. We will wind up walking a ways so wear comfortable shoes.
  6. Stan is kind enough to host this event. Please be respectful of his property and rules.
  7. If you have an extra jersey, even from past years, bring it.
  8. Sing Second.

News & Media

The spring 2025 seedings are out! Check out the picture above. There will only be two more weeks of 'regular season' before these rankings determine the playoff matchups. Perhaps some are confused about the role of the various rankings we list. To be clear, CRAA D1A power rankings are the one that determine the playoff matchups. The Goff Rugby Report rankings are one of many contributors to the overall D1A power ranking algorithm. I hope that helps explain some of the various rankings that we include in this newsletter.

Please continue to keep former Navy Men's assistant coach and Women's head coach, William "Loc" Vetter in your thoughts and prayers. We have posted recently and will continue to post his book about coaching college rugby. Read Goff Rugby Reports review of the Loc's book. The book is available on Amazon and at Barnes & Noble. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the book go to the institutions where Loc played or coached, INCLUDING NAVY!
