SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE
|
|
JOIN US FOR MASS THIS WEEKEND
|
|
Saturday at 5:00pm
Sunday at 9:00am
Sunday at 11:00am - Next Generation Mass
During this Mass we will celebrate our next generation of Catholics. Children and youth will serve during the liturgy. We look forward to them carrying on the light at SJV for the next 50 years!
ABOUT CHRIST THE KING
On the last Sunday of each liturgical year, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, or Christ the King. Pope Pius XI instituted this feast in 1925 with his encyclical Quas primas (“In the first”) to respond to growing secularism and atheism. This solemnity reminds us that while governments come and go, Christ reigns as King forever. During the early twentieth century, in Mexico, Russia, and some parts of Europe, militantly secularistic regimes threatened not just the Catholic Church and its faithful, but civilization itself. Pope Pius XI’s encyclical gave Catholics hope and—while governments around them crumbled—the assurance that Christ the King shall reign forever.
Today, religious freedom for many people means that we can believe whatever we want in private, but when we enter the public square, we may not speak of anything that relates to our faith. However, the Church acknowledges the reign of Christ, not only privately, but publicly. This solemnity encourages us to celebrate and live out our faith in public. When we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King, we declare to the world, and remind ourselves, that Jesus is the Lord of the Church and of the entire universe. Learn more
Please continue to self-screen. Stay home if you are not feeling well and celebrate Mass with us via livestream. We are doing our best to continue to provide a safe space to worship for everyone. Click here to see current COVID safety measures.

Over the past several weeks, St. John Vianney has been highlighting our renewal for Stewardship of Treasure. Your pledge sustains the ministries of our parish by providing youth and young adult programs, outreach ministries, youth mission trips, and many other programs to help people draw closer to Christ regardless of where they are on their faith journey. May you be grateful every day for the many blessings given to you by God. Pledge online
