Cornwall Library Newsletter December 2021
In moving from one season to another - fall to winter - we also find ourselves moving from one holiday theme to another - thankfulness to giving.

I was taught that to be genuinely thankful, you needed to be able to give of yourself. For example, if you give a gift you make yourself, it means more to you and hopefully more to the recipient. Likewise, volunteering is an act that gives both to the people being helped and to the volunteer. My sisters and I used to volunteer in a soup kitchen once a month. We loved that day, going early to set up the room and do all the food preparation. People arrived and greeted us as if we were old friends. They would joke with us, and it felt as if we were at a large family gathering.

The recent Great Give Back campaign that the library sponsored reminded me of this wonderful feeling I had as a child. The Cornwall community was so generous, donating over 500 pounds of food, diapers, and personal care items, as well as $50.00 in cash, to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. I am grateful to work in a place and live in a community that wants to serve and make a difference to others.

That desire to serve and make a difference to our patrons is precisely the mission driving the Cornwall Public Library. We encourage you to come to our programs, or check out some great books, DVDs, or music. Take a look at all we have to offer you. Happy Holidays!
