Exciting News about Christmas!
|
I've asked several people to pray for a Christmas miracle lately, and clearly your prayers must have worked. We've been hoping that it might be possible for us to return to worship in our space by Christmas Eve. I'm thrilled to announce that we will indeed get to celebrate Christmas together in our space! Our contractors, Strongbuilt Construction, assure us they can complete the work in the church in time for us to offer Christmas services.
Mark your calendars for 4:00 PM or 8:00 PM (or both!) on Christmas Eve, and 10:15 AM Christmas Day for a very special "Christmas in Lakeview." We will be asking you to register for these services simply because we anticipate that many people will wish to attend, both because it's Christmas and it's our first services back in what will be our beautifully restored church. Stay tuned for further details coming next week.
While in some ways this time of diaspora has seemed slow (particularly for our faculty, students, and school families), we've actually made some remarkable progress in a short amount of time. The construction is ahead of schedule, it appears our student body will be back on campus by mid-January, and now we know we'll be worshipping in the church by Christmas. It truly is something for which we should be thankful.
I hope to see you as we keep W@tCh (Weekends at Church) again this weekend. Bible study and Evensong on Saturday at the Harbor, and Eucharist Sunday at the Cathedral (more details below). In the meantime, best wishes for a safe and happy Thanksgiving! Keep the faith, St. Paul’s.
God’s blessings,

- We will not be able to worship in the church for several weeks to come because of the damage from Hurricane Ida. This Sunday, November 26, 2021, we invite you to join us for worship with Christ Church Cathedral, 2919 St. Charles Ave., at 10:00 AM.
- If you need an alternative to in-person worship, you can view the live stream on the Cathedral's YouTube channel HERE.
We encourage you to spend some time beforehand with the readings and Collect of the Day. Don't have a Book of Common Prayer for Sunday? Find it online HERE.

We've missed having chances to get together, so come keep W@tCh with our new weekend schedule:
- LECTIONARY LOUNGE & ADVENT WREATH MAKING
-
What: What's a "lectionary" you ask? It's the schedule of readings we hear in worship each week. Greg Williams will lead a study of these readings to get you deeper into the Bible, and to prep you for hearing them in worship.
-
What Continued... THIS WEEK, we will also offer an opportunity to make an Advent Wreath so you and your family can observe a faithful Advent at home. Didn't get a chance to sign up? See the blurb below.
-
When: Saturday, 4:30 PM
-
Where: The Harbor Community Collective, 6100 Canal Blvd. It's easy to find if you've ever been to St. Paul's. It's about a block away on the opposite side of Canal.

-
What: A sung Evening Prayer led by our choir and musicians.
-
When: Saturday, 5:30 PM

On Sunday, November 14, Fr. Rob preached that it is ok not to be ok. If you missed it, you can watch his sermon here. We often try to convince ourselves "we're just fine." We may not even notice that we aren't really ok. We can get so accustomed to feeling not ok, that we let it become accepting of being less happy, less joyful. We say it's because... And... may be true reasons for why we really aren't ok. But even when we can't change some of the reasons, we can change how we feel. The world around us doesn't have to be good for us to start feeling better. Start by knowing it's ok not to be ok and admit to yourself when that's where you are.
This first step in feeling better is realizing it is ok not to be ok.
Dr. Jeanne, Director of the St. Paul's Center for Counseling & Education, is a valuable resource in our community. Whether you feel ok or not, whether you need to talk through a specific problem or discuss issues in general, Dr. Jeanne is ready and able to help. You can meet with her by phone and Zoom, and at an outdoor space that is both private and COVID safe. If you would like to set up a meeting with Dr. Jeanne, please call or text her at (504) 330-2549 or email her at jrobertson@stpauls-lakeview.org.
