'Tis the Season... to Dream of Racing!

...at least your Lake Ontario Offshore Racing committee is!!

Congratulations to all the racers who were on the water last season.  Weather didn't deter LOOR Racers from gathering around PCYC's fire pit on Sunday December 5 to pick up their winning flags, enjoy some Chili, and engage in some trash talk. It was a great fun to see everyone again.

Having successfully organised the 2021 Racing Season, we are getting ready for 2022. The dates are set, NOR's are being crafted, and logistics are well in hand. We are also planning to host some webinars this winter which will be of interest to our racers. They were quite popular last year, so mark your calendar.

We wish you all the best for the holiday season! We look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

Lake Ontario Offshore Racing – 2021 Recap:

LO300 – Congratulations to all the racers. This year’ race lived up to its name by challenging racers with long stretches of calm followed by winds “on the nose” and a restrictive course with limited space to maneuver compared to other 300s with the added obstacle of the US Border. Close to the end several thunderstorms rolled through just to add additional discomfort to the already tired racers.
After a long battle around Lake Ontario, Line Honours went to Hydromec from Quebec City with Afterburn close behind.

Congratulations also go to Skipper Ian Struthers on Pika, a Beneteau First 10R, in the Double Handed division who won the Sperry Cup.

LO600 – Congratulations to Upstart, a Sunfast 3200, Co-Skippered by Bert Barrett and Brian Mitchell who won the Pearl Trophy. This is the second win for Bert on Upstart, having also won in 2018. Special kudos go to solo Skipper Dave Courtney on Arrow, an Archambault 40. He finished the LO600 just over 24-hours after the final LO300 boat. What a ride! Congratulations also goes to Perspective who crossed the finish line a close second.

SHTR – Congratulations to all the racers. We couldn’t have asked for better conditions. Winds stayed steady, only stopping at around 8am and catching an unfortunate third of the fleet in a hold for a couple of hours. Line honours goes to Afterburn who came in at 05:22 completing the race in 9 hours and 32 minutes.

Winner of the Susan Hood Trophy was solo racer James Roscoe on Revival, an Abbot 33. Our Sponsor, nke, awarded the $2300 nke multi-display unit to James.

LOSHRS – Congratulations to all the racers who competed in the four races held this year. Our Sponsors, North Sails & Access Abilities, awarded the $5000 Sail Prize to Bert Barrett and Upstart.

LOOR understands that the online check-in process can be a bit of a challenge and maybe a bit frustrating to complete. We thank Arbornaut Tree Services for their prize incentive of a 6L GUL dry bag, bottle of rum, and $200 gift certificate for Arbornaut Tree Services to encourage all of our racers to complete the online check-in process in a timely manner.
