Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King's Legacy!

On Friday, Rebuilding Together Houston joined forces with the Houston Rockets to amplify our mission in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Inspired by Dr. King’s vision of community, equity, and service, we worked to restore the home of a long-time Sunnyside homeowner, Mr. Carl Dale Scoby.

Mr. Scoby has called Sunnyside home for several years. His house, passed down through three generations, represents his family’s enduring presence and legacy in the community. Earlier this year, Hurricane Beryl caused significant damage to the property, threatening its safety and stability. Rebuilding Together Houston stepped in to provide essential repairs, including electrical upgrades, wiring improvements, window repairs, and critical bathroom enhancements such as flooring support and a new shower installation. These efforts not only restore the home but also strengthen its resilience against future disasters, ensuring Mr. Scoby can continue to live safely in the home he loves.

This MLK Day, we honor Dr. King’s legacy by continuing to build stronger, healthier communities. Together, we are answering his call to service: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
