S. 42nd St. and Daisy St.

Roundabout Project

Virginia-Daisy Bike Route

August 18, 2023

Dear Neighbor:

Safety improvements including a roundabout are being designed for the intersection of S. 42nd St. and Daisy St. The City of Springfield worked on plans for safety improvements and traffic calming enhancements at this intersection previously, but the project was put on hold. We are now starting the project again and will be sharing updates as the project progresses.

What does the project include?

The City is currently designing a compact roundabout at the intersection of S. 42nd St. and Daisy St. to create slow circulation speeds through the intersection for all street approaches. This will greatly improve the safety of the intersection for people in vehicles, walking, or bicycling compared to existing conditions.

Why do the project?

Daisy St. and Virginia Ave. have been identified for street design changes to provide a safe and comfortable bicycle corridor that can be used by people of all ages and abilities. A compact roundabout will improve intersection safety by eliminating head-on, right-angle, and left-turning crashes as well as encouraging slower speeds. It will also improve pedestrian safety by offering two simple crossings of one-way traffic moving at much slower speeds.

What is happening now?

City engineers are in the design phase of the roundabout. The illustration below is not the final design and may change. For additional information and to follow the progress of the project visit the project page.
