The letter addresses the issuance of a permit, by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, to Enbridge Energy to reroute the Line 5 oil pipeline around the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa's watershed — a threat to the ecosystem's "lakes, rivers and local wildlife." A life-size bronze statue of Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Thea Bowman invites all to the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle in Jackson, Mississippi. The statue was installed on Dec. 21, 2024, and celebrated in Mass at the cathedral. Bishop Joseph R. Kopacz declared that Sister Thea was "a beacon of light and hope in her time ... who continues to inspire and challenge us to bring that light and hope to a world so in need of it."
