Protecting Line 5: 'let's make a bold choice'

"We urge decision-makers to prioritize the long-term health of all over short-term economic gains," wrote Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration Georgia Christensen, Paulynn Instenes and Laura Nettles in a letter to the editor of the La Crosse Tribune, published Dec. 18, 2024. The letter addresses the issuance of a permit, by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, to Enbridge Energy to reroute the Line 5 oil pipeline around the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa's watershed a threat to the ecosystem's "lakes, rivers and local wildlife." Sister Thea: Monument of hope

A life-size bronze statue of Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Thea Bowman invites all to the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle in Jackson, Mississippi. The statue was installed on Dec. 21, 2024, and celebrated in Mass at the cathedral. Bishop Joseph R. Kopacz declared that Sister Thea was "a beacon of light and hope in her time ... who continues to inspire and challenge us to bring that light and hope to a world so in need of it." FSPA moments in time

Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration Marcella Marie Dreikosen and Laura Gutting share their musical talents in the 80s with FSPA at St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

In early December 2024, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Marla Lang prepared prairie seed for sowing at FSPA land on St. Joseph Ridge. In accordance with our commitment to the seven-year Laudato Si' Action Platform, cultivating sustainability and stewardship with prairie restoration is an FSPA priority of integral ecology.
