Spring Class Schedule

Are You a Foodie?

One of the most sought-after and highest-paying fields currently is food science, which uses chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology and engineering to solve local and global food issues. In light of this, Sacramento City College is excited to offer a new Food Science course that will get students started on this exciting career path.

Currently, the median salary for food science professionals is $110,00 annually – up from $95,000 in 2019, according to the 2022 IFT Employment and Salary Survey. Job opportunities in the field span a wide range, including research and development, process engineering and regulatory affairs. This is a field that has a continuing and growing need for skilled labor.

The new course, NUTRI 335 Food Science will be taught, in person, at the SCC Davis Center and will include several tours of the Food Science facilities at UC Davis including the Robert Mondavi Food and Wine Institute.

Celebrating and Enlightening Sacramento History Through The Inspirational Literary Genius of Sacramento’s Joan Didion

On November 10, 2022, the Sacramento Historical Society (SHS) will celebrate the life and legacy of author and Sacramento native Joan Didion. The centerpiece of this exciting event will be the unveiling of a new sculpture of Didion that SHS commissioned from renowned sculptor Lisa Reinertson, also a Sacramento native. This celebration will also launch a new partnership between SHS and Sacramento City College, where Joan Didion attended school in the early 1950s. The partnership will encourage and support future generations of writers who want to follow in Didion’s footsteps by establishing an endowment to fund the Joan Didion Scholarship for Writers. Proceeds from the November 10 event will go directly to supporting the Didion project as well as to community college students who, like the acclaimed author, also call our region home. While at the event, attendees can also view featured artwork from local artists and Sacramento City College Art Department alumni.
