Bayview Elementary Students Take
Instructional Trip to No Limits Cafe
On November 17, Bayview Elementary School students from Mrs. Laguardia, Mrs. Jennings and Ms. Rotendella’s classes participated in a community based instruction trip to The No Limits Cafe in Middletown.

As well as participating in a dance party and enjoying delicious food, students
spent the afternoon assisting No Limits Cafe staff members with some of their daily responsibilities.

The students who attended are also members of The Heroes Cafe, a Bayview Elementary-based organization that raises funds for the No Limits Cafe by filling drink and snack orders for staff, and collecting donations in return.
As Thanksgiving approaches, The Heroes Cafe sought and opportunity to assist No Limits Cafe staff with serving individuals living with food insecurities. Bayview students collaborated to create magnets and ornaments for restaurant staff to distribute to anyone who makes a donation to their incredible cause.

"I would like to thank Mrs. Laguardia, Mrs. Jennings and Ms. Rotendella for providing this exceptional opportunity for our students. The Heroes Cafe provides a wealth of opportunities for students to grow academically, and develop workplace skills and social skills, as well as build relationships within the school community," said Superintendent Mrs. Mary Ellen Walker. "I appreciate their efforts to offer an extension to that learning experience by organizing and carrying out the trip to No Limits Cafe where students were able to work, play, and contribute to efforts to support those in need in our community."

"And most importantly, thank you to our students who supported the efforts of No Limits Cafe to provide food for our community members with food insecurities! You have demonstrated your kindness and willingness to help others, and are great role models for all of us!" added Mrs. Walker.

MTPS Educators Go "Beneath the Floorboards" at Marlpit Hall
Earlier this week, Middletown Township Public School secondary social studies teachers attended a professional development session at Marlpit Hall on Kings Highway in Middletown.

While in attendance, our educators observed the historical home's latest exhibit Beneath the Floorboards: Whispers of the Enslaved.

The exhibit is the inaugural display developed from the Monmouth County Historical Society's Living and Breathing Initiative, which launched in 2019 as an effort to reinterpret the various colonial-era historic homes throughout the county to communicate the stories of the enslaved African Americans who once resided at these locations.
This initial exhibition, and those that are scheduled to follow, concentrate on offering observers a deeper understanding about how early communities in Monmouth County were not immune to the roots of slavery, as well as a comprehensive depiction of the daily life and relationships between the enslaved.

The exhibit is now open to the public Fridays through Sundays from Noon to 5 p.m. For additional information about the exhibit please visit the official webpage of Marlpit Hall.
