Hosted by the FIU Center for Children and Families and presented by The Children’s Trust, the MICAMH Conference is the leading interdisciplinary conference addressing evidence-based prevention and treatment interventions.

NAMI's FREE South Florida Suicide Awareness Conference on March 4 *

NAMI Miami-Dade invites providers to The South Florida Suicide Prevention Awareness Conference on Saturday, March 4th from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Suicide was the second leading cause of death for people ages 10-14 and 25-34 in 2020, the most recent year for which data is available. Researchers emphasize that reported suicides are likely undercounted. There is a suicide death in the US every 11 minutes and approximately 1 in 5 people will experience a mental illness each year.

Join NAMI to hear practical information and learn about resources available on mental health challenges and suicide prevention. The conference will be held at the University of Miami Newman Alumni Center, 6200 San Amaro Drive, Coral Gables, FL 33146.

OPEN ARMS is a VITA site offering FREE tax preparation assistance for people who generally make $60,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English-speaking taxpayers starting February 2, and continuing Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4-7 p.m., at 5556 SW 8 St., in Coral Gables, and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at 1275 W 47 Pl. in Hialeah. FREE Virtual Coding Program for Your High School Participants

America On Tech's TECH360 Spring Boot Camp is a 10-week virtual after-school program for sophomores, juniors and seniors enrolled in high schools in Miami-Dade County. Students learn the fundamentals of web design and development from expert instructors. Students who complete the program will receive a $500 stipend. The application deadline is February 5. Community Grant Opportunities from the Town of Cutler Bay

The Town of Cutler Bay established the Community Fund to improve the quality of life of the town’s residents through various ways and create supportive partnerships with local nonprofit organizations that help, support and serve our community. Free Grief & Loss on the Autism Spectrum Training

The Children's Bereavement Center is offering free training that will cover the unique ways that individuals on the autism spectrum experience and express grief. Attendees will be educated on the key myths, gaps and stereotypes about those with autism and how these gaps and challenges may impact the experience of grief and loss. Finally, it will highlight the grief needs of those with dual vulnerability (members of multiple oppressed groups) such as those in unique/diverse/minority populations who have ASD. This training takes place February 8, noon-1:30 p.m. Register below.

English for Families Literary Series from Miami-Dade Library System

Attention providers that serve families whose native language is not English. Join Miami-Dade Public Library System for a 10-week series designed to help parents and children ages 6-12 years develop and improve their English-language vocabulary and literacy skills through fun story readings and interactive activities. This is a hybrid course. The instructor will teach the class in two modalities simultaneously. Participants choose to register to attend the course either online or in the library. Space is limited.

Schedule a Free Mental Health Presentation for Families

Teach parents/caregivers about mental wellness with a FREE program "Ending the Silence" (ETS) presented by the National Alliance on Mental Illness Miami-Dade County. ETS is a 60-minute or longer virtual/in-person presentation that increases knowledge about warning signs of mental health issues, diminishes stigma, encourages families to seek help, and provides local and national resources. It is presented in English and Spanish.

Media Manager - ($55,968 Annual) *

The Media Manager is responsible for assisting the Director of Communications with all forms of media, including earned and paid media, sponsored content, and social media. The Media Manager will be the primary executor of media strategies as directed by both the Director of Communications and the Chief Public Policy & Engagement Officer. The incumbent will also work directly with both marketing and public relations consultants, as assigned. The incumbent will have creative latitude to develop written content, under the approval of the Director of Communications and Chief Public Policy & Engagement Officer and will have the opportunity to pitch and develop media stories.

Research & Evaluation Analyst - ($55,968 Annual)

The Research and Evaluation Analyst is a critical member of both cross- and inter-departmental teams at The Children’s Trust who engages in proactive problem-solving and critical thinking/analysis related to the design and effectiveness of various child, youth and family services. Primary responsibilities include: contributing to effective program and systems designs for The Children’s Trust’s priority investments in child, youth and family services; designing and maintaining sound data collection tools and systems to capture meaningful program, operational and community data in a user-friendly, accessible manner; and analyzing and making meaning from available data to tell our stories using compelling visualizations and reports, with an intentional focus on the specific audience and purpose of the message.

Solutions Specialist - ($55,968 Annual)

The Solutions Specialist executes on solutions design in response to business priorities and vetted requirements. This position conducts unit testing and validates use cases to ensure solution aligns with requirements. This position maintains and implements routine solutions under the guidance of senior Technology Design and Solutions team members.

DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR: The Development Director will support the advancement functions of the organization, including building, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of donors for annual and multi-year gifts. The Director will focus on growing corporate giving. Responsibilities will include direct fundraising, fundraising activities coordination, stewardship and advancement-related administrative support in order to strengthen our work with donors and partners, thereby advancing mission, programs and impact.

SOCIAL MEDIA & CONTENT CREATOR: The Social Media & Content Creator plans, leads, and executes social media strategies in support of a new training initiative, SkillBuild, powered by Breakthrough Miami, and also supports established Breakthrough Miami platforms. Social media strategies will build brand awareness, affinity, and engagement. The Creator will take a lead in creating and posting content, storytelling, monitoring and responding to comments and interactions, and creating and implementing social media campaigns. This is a unique opportunity to establish a new endeavor in the spirit of the recognized Breakthrough Miami brand. The Creator will be a critical part of advancing social impact across our community. 

ASSISTANT SITE DIRECTOR: The Assistant Site Director (ASD) is responsible for the efficient and effective delivery of programs and services that most directly affect Breakthrough Miami Scholars and families. An ASD oversees campus or site logistics, unpaid student volunteers and some stipended positions, such as Teaching Fellows. As an ambassador of the program, the ASD builds supportive relationships with students, parents, schools, the community and other stakeholders to ensure the academic and socio-enrichment success of all Breakthrough Scholars. 

The individual in this role is organized, self-motivated and collaborative, with strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

SUMMER INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES: Summer Instructional Coaches (ICs) are experienced and successful professional educators who provide content specific support for BTM Teaching Fellows throughout the summer and engage fully in the BTM community. ICs dictate the level of academic rigor during Breakthrough Miami’s summer program through their interactions with Teaching Fellows. They effectively communicate content specifics to Teaching Fellows, guide Fellows through effective planning and execution, and hold both Fellows and students to the highest standards. ICs are expected to lead department meetings, visit Fellows’ classes at least twice a week, evaluate lesson plans and curriculum overviews, and meet individually with Fellows regarding their on-going work. Since ICs are the only professional teachers on-site, they are accountable for the quality of instruction students receive, and are responsible for supporting BTM Teaching Fellows through their teaching experiences. This role starts on June 10, 2023 and ends on August 4, 2023.

The individuals in this role must have a State of Florida Teaching Certificate or equivalent; an outstanding track record as a professional classroom teacher; exceptional interpersonal skills; the ability to deliver positive, constructive and honest feedback; and creativity, energy and commitment to excellence.

SUMMER SITE COORDINATORS: Summer Site Coordinators (SSCs) are critical members of the summer administrative team and help ensure the smooth and safe operations of the Summer Institute at their assigned site. SSCs train, coordinate and oversee volunteers; supervise the summer food service program for Scholars and staff; order and keep an inventory of program supplies; coordinate general office administration; manage the Scholar drop off and pick up process; and assist with the execution of special events. This position starts on June 10, 2023 and ends on August 4, 2023.

The individuals in this role must have a strong academic record with a minimum of two years of college completion; and excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

SUMMER ASSISTANT SITE DIRECTORS: Summer Assistant Site Directors (SASDs) work collaboratively with full-time directors at their assigned site to ensure a successful Summer Institute; and work closely with Scholars and their families, as well as Teaching Fellows to ensure their needs are met. This position starts on June 10, 2023 and ends on August 4, 2023.

The individuals in this role must have a bachelor’s degree; a high degree of flexibility in order to multitask between projects; exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in many different environments with people from diverse backgrounds; comfort and confidence in working with children and adults; and creativity, energy, and a commitment to excellence.
