Dear Chartiers Valley families,

This afternoon, the Pennsylvania Department of Health issued an order requiring face coverings in all school entities. Chartiers Valley Schools will be abiding by this state mandate for all staff and students k-12 and on all district transportation beginning Tuesday, September 7.

Understandably we may have our differences in regards to this mandate, and our changing environment is causing an unsettling feeling for us all; however, we must keep our students a priority and focus on these goals:
  • We know that our students learn best when our teachers are with them in the classroom.
  • We know that the mental health of our students strongly depends on socialization, the normalcy of schedule, and activities.

As we see how our elementary buildings (K-5) are being disrupted by COVID-19, I ask that for these next three days, we dedicate our efforts to preventing in-school transmission and quarantine by wearing a mask at school.

The ACHD is not recommending that we close our elementary (K-5) buildings, as they see "no evidence of substantial transmission within grades/buildings" and are pleased with the efficiency of our contact tracing procedures. However, they are strongly advising and supporting the District in our masking efforts for the remainder of the week, as the mandate officially goes into effect for all K-12 schools on Tuesday, September 7.

Together, we can keep our students in the classrooms and in their activities. Thank you for your support.

As always, it's a great day to be a Colt!

Sincerely,

Johannah M. Vanatta, Ed.D.
Superintendent
