Celebrating UUC Custodian Alberto Sandoval
Sunday, December 29, following the service, in NJH
|
Since 2010, our congregation has been quietly, caringly, and efficiently supported by Alberto Sandoval, our Saturday and Sunday morning custodian. He’s the one you’ve undoubtedly seen in Nathan Johnson Hall (NJH) keeping an eye out for a congregational need, a safety concern, or someone who seems a little lost or in need of a helping hand. Alberto is also the one who moves the tables, sets up the chairs, cleans the surfaces, and pays attention to the building’s needs on weekend mornings. He gets the kitchen ready for our Coffee Crew on Sundays and for special events, and is always ready with a big smile and a friendly word, particularly if someone greets him in Spanish, whether they are fluent or trying their best as a language learner. (Alberto is originally from El Salvador.) [Continue reading]

December Offering to Kenmore Senior Women’s Shelter |
The fastest growing group of people being served by Lake City Partners Ending Homelessness (LCP) is unsheltered seniors, including older women. LCP has just opened a new shelter, the Kenmore Senior Women’s Shelter, to help meet this need. Donations made during the offering at our Christmas Eve services will go to support this program and the women being served by it.
Donations may also be made through the end of December in cash or via check, text, or electronic transfer to UUC. [Continue reading]

Family Holiday Services Recordings |
From Aria Curtis, Director of Family Ministry
What a fun and joyful Holiday Service we had on December 15!
I will confess that I was a little nervous, having never done a no-rehearsal pageant before. But, it turned out to be a wonderful opportunity to include the whole congregation in the telling of this important story, as well as give children lots of options about how they'd like to participate. A Holiday Message from UUA President |
From Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt
As we enter into our holiday season once again, I am suffused with gratitude for all of the ways that UUs have been living their faith boldly in the past year –in your congregation’s ministries, in worship on Sundays, during our historic Climate Justice Revival last September, and in sharing our values with voters across the United States through UU the Vote. These and other faith practices form a counter-cultural resistance that is needed desperately in these times. My prayer is that all of us will reflect on what our faith asks of us in these days and respond accordingly in community. [Continue reading]

Security for Women’s March
March will be on Saturday, January 18; training ahead of time
|
We are seeking scores, maybe hundreds, of volunteers to help out with security at the Seattle Women's March on January 18, 2025. Think of "Security" as "Peace Makers" or "De-Escalators" or "Helpers". This critical role will require a team of folks from all backgrounds, genders, races, sizes, ages—we need to keep our people, participants in the March, safe, and embraced in a secure and fun and loving experience. Current health safety protocols at UUC: Facemasks are optional but welcomed, especially while singing. For the well-being of everyone in our community, please STAY HOME if you have cold or flu-like symptoms, even if you're sure it’s "just a cold."
UUC monitors Public Health – Seattle & King County COVID-19 data dashboards and advisories, updating our health safety protocols accordingly. We also consult CDC About COVID-19 resources to inform our decisions. We additionally track Washington State Department of Public Health Resources and Recommendations for Business and Workers for guidance around COVID-19 safeguards for staff and visitors.
Please continue to check in at a kiosk or on the paper sign-in sheet when entering the building. This helps us better understand attendance on Sundays and for programs and meetings throughout the week.
