THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
JOIN US FOR MASS THIS WEEKEND
Saturday at 4:00pm
(Earlier Mass time, and no Reconciliation due to Gala Dinner & Auction)
Sunday at 9:00am
Sunday at 11:00am

PRACTICE OF HOPE
At the time of Jesus, not all Jews believe in an afterlife. The seven brothers in the first reading believed in the resurrection of the just, whereas others, such as the Sadducees, did not. Jesus' resurrection ensures that there is new life to come. Are you scared of death? Share you fears with the Lord. What should you do to prepare for death, not only spiritually, but in other aspects of your life.
During November we especially remember those who have died. Pray Sunday's responsorial psalm on behalf of those who have died, especially those who died young or who died a violent death.

Please continue to self-screen. Stay home if you are not feeling well and celebrate Mass with us via livestream. We are doing our best to continue to provide a safe space to worship for everyone. Click here to see current COVID safety measures.

PRESCHOOL AT THE PUMPKIN PATCH
Check out our field trips to Craven Farms in Snohomish, where the kids got to pick out their very own pumpkins, meet farm animals, and walk through an Adventure maze.
TRUNK-OR-TREAT
An evening for preschool and parishioners to come together for a fun and safe Halloween community event. We were blessed with sunshine, blue skies, and a balmy 58 degrees. Thank you to all who joined us in their costumes with enthusiasm and anticipation, helpful hands welcoming newcomers, and the most incredible trunk decorations. The generous candy donations were very much appreciated by our little visitors.
FACILITIES WORKSHOP
Thanks to everyone for their help on our big Fall Cleanup last month! If you want, we always have things to do around this 8-acre parcel of beautiful grounds. Please let Greg Leptich (cell 206.940.4072 or gleptich@sjvkirkland.org) know if you are willing to help.
  • Father Vu’s “Doors of Heaven” project is mostly complete. We have heard many positive comments about the light and versatility it has added to the church. Phase II, the walkway and meeting area is coming up.
  • The other Mary Statue, the beautifully carved Madonna on our North parking lot, is being refurbished by our own master woodworker Barry McDermott. This should be completed What a beautiful addition to our grounds!
  • The Rectory is getting a new coat of paint to the outside. Tony Volchok has offered his expertise and is doing a fantastic job. Thanks again Tony!!!
  • The grounds are looking wonderful thanks in great part to all the volunteers we have! A great big thank you to our fabulous Facilities Committee and their dedication, and Tony’s Adopt-a-Bed team! Be sure to follow Tony’s “Bed of the Month” recognition and check out what volunteers are doing to make our home a beautiful Light on Finn Hill.
  • The wooden railing on the stairwells off the Social Hall Balcony have been sanded down and painted. Thanks again to Greg Nolan for his help in getting this project done. The rest of the railings on the balcony will be addressed next summer.
  • The Master Gardeners are doing so much with that little plot of grass in the north gravel parking area. So far, they have donated well over 800# of produce this summer to a local Food Bank! Great to partner with them as they do so many good things. Go by and check it out.
We can always use help around here, especially with gardening, spreading bark and other odd projects. If you have a particular skill, or just like puttering in particular areas, please let Greg know, gleptich@sjvkirkland.org, 206.940.4072 or leave your contact information at the front desk.
ADOPT-A-BED
October Bed of the Month
Tom and Ruth Norwood

Tom and Ruth have been taking care of the bed around the two flagpoles for many years. Their dedicated efforts have helped to beautify our wonderful grounds as well as honor the men and women who have served our country in the military over the years. If any of you have not noticed this nice garden, we suggest that you to check it out. We at SJV thank you Tom and Ruth.

A big thanks too goes to all of our friends who came out on Saturday morning, October 15, for the annual fall yard cleanup day to help us tidy up our grounds and get the place ready for winter. The turnout was good, and all worked hard, and the results are obvious. Most certainly many of you who regularly attend mass will come from your cars right into the church, and after mass go directly to your cars and home. How about sometime think about spending a few minutes either before or after mass and take a stroll around the yard and enjoy the landscape. Lots of work has gone into beautifying the grounds here at SJV, and much of it is the result of time and talent donated by our parishioners. Beds are still available for adoption. Call or email Tony Z. You can also pick up an Adopt-a-Bed pamphlet at the welcome table in the narthex.

AUCTION UPDATES
IN HIS MAJESTY'S SERVICE
Saturday, November 5 at 5:00pm
(Mass will be at 4:00pm)
The Gala Dinner & Auction is this weekend! There are a few seats left to join the bidding and bond-ing. Be sure to purchase a seat to enjoy a night out in your glitzy James Bond attire with a lobster and steak dinner! Also remember to purchase a raffle ticket to win cash, a night out on the town, or a prime SJV parking spot!

WAYS YOU CAN HELP OUR PARISH COMPLETE ITS MISSION!

Volunteer before the Auction (October 31 - November 4 during the day): decorating, setting tables, folding napkins, setting up auction items...

Volunteer during the Auction (Saturday, November 5): serving guests at the dinner, help with clean up...

Wine Game: Please donate your favorite $20.00 - $24.99 bottle of wine.

Auction Fund-a-Need: Raise your paddle or donate here to Fund-a-Need for the next phase of the Doors of Heaven project. As stated last year and reiterated by the Archdiocese in their approval of the project, we are looking at doing some relandscaping and creating a walkway from the doors to a hardscaped gathering area near the eastern parking lot. This will involve relocating at least two of the rhododendron bushes as well as creating a pathway through the berm. We plan some other hardscaped features possibly including lighting, seating, and a gathering area. We are hoping to raise $40,000 to plan and execute this project. Any money raised above the amount needed will go to our General Fund.

Pray: that our mission at A Night of Bidding and Bonding will be a success!

Thank you – we can’t wait to celebrate our SJV family together!
