Hugo Leung
CEO, BNP Paribas Hong Kong
Hugo Leung is the Chief Executive Officer for Hong Kong, BNP Paribas and BNP Paribas Securities (Asia) Limited. He oversees the full breadth of the integrated and diversified offering in Hong Kong, encompassing all corporate and institutional banking activities. As its CEO, Hugo is responsible for the overall management of the legal entity of BNP Paribas Securities Asia, supervising its activities. Prior to his current role, he oversaw Global Markets activities in Hong Kong including fixed income, equities and commodity derivatives business. Hugo has extensive financial services experience having held various roles since joining BNP Paribas in 1993. He has a B.A. degree in Economics from Simon Fraser University in Canada and speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin. In April 2017, Hugo was appointed as an independent Non- Executive Director for Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx), where he serves on the Audit Committee, Risk Committee, Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, Executive Committee, Panel Member Nomination Committee, Investment Advisory Committee, and he is also the Deputy Chairman of Derivatives Market Consultative Panel.
Julien Kasparian
CEO, Securities Services Hong Kong, BNP Paribas Hong Kong
During his 20 years at BNP Paribas Securities Services, Julien Kasparian has built a comprehensive track record in financial services, holding various management positions within clearing services, operations, product, and market infrastructure, as well as sales and relationship management. Since September 2017, Julien has served as Head of Securities Services Hong Kong, bringing his entrepreneurial and solutions-driven approach to BNP Paribas Securities’ oldest location in the Asia Pacific region. His experience in the UK and France, especially in the areas of market infrastructure and regulatory developments, means he is perfectly positioned to lead the bank’s efforts in Hong Kong as the city continues to develop as a leading global financial centre. Before becoming Head of Securities Services Hong Kong, Julien served as Head of Sales and Relationship Management for Banks and Brokers based in London, where he was also a member of the UK Executive Committee. Before joining BNP Paribas in 1997, he worked for the Central Bank of France as an account manager. Julien is a graduate of DUT GEA where he studied Business Economics & Strategic Management.
Philly Apthorpe
Chair of MixCity Hong Kong (gender diversity network), BNP Paribas Hong Kong
Philly Apthorpe joined BNP Paribas in 2016 and is Managing Director, Head of Marketing & Events APAC within their Brand and Communications team, responsible for branding, advertising, sponsorship, client marcomms and events. Prior to this she led Marketing, Communications and Events for Global Markets and FIC APAC. She started her career in advertising at J. Walter Thompson London, where she spent time in their media relations, new business and account management teams. From there she moved to UBS in London and held a number of roles within the Investment Bank’s advertising, communications and marketing teams, before relocating to Hong Kong 16 years ago to establish and lead its APAC Business Marketing and Client Marketing Strategy functions. Philly is a passionate advocate of DE&I and holds a strong belief that diversity, in all its forms, lies at the heart of successful organisations. Her commitment to DE&I, and in particular gender diversity, is evident through her active role in launching BNP Paribas’ inaugural Returnship Programmes in Hong Kong and Singapore, the first of its kind for the bank globally. Within Global Markets, Philly also helped initiate the roll out of Male Allies regionally and was a founding Board Member of Women in Global Markets APAC, focused on recruitment, retention and engagement. She is a member of BNP Paribas’ DE&I APAC Board and is Chair of MixCity Hong Kong, BNP Paribas’ gender diversity network.
Chaitali Patel
Chief Impact Officer, 100 Women in Finance
Chaitali Patel is Chief Impact Officer at 100 Women in Finance, a global association of women executives in asset management with 30 locations worldwide. Chaitali is a highly reputable social impact, finance, and fintech executive. Prior to joining 100 Women in Finance, she founded Evergood, an ESG, and sustainability consulting firm. In addition, she led the B2B finance arm of Fundation Group, a New York-based financial technology firm, as head of Catalyst Solutions. As an ESG and impact investing entrepreneur actively engaged in the academic community, she speaks and shares knowledge on gender equity in the business, social impact investing, ESG metrics, and impact measurement best practices. She serves on the boards of commercial and social impact organizations, including UK-based ESG tech firm Maanch, STEM for Her, a nonprofit with the mission to advance women in STEM careers, and University Impact, a donor-advised impact fund based in Provo, Utah. She is based in the Washington, DC, area.
