ADULT DVDS NOW ORGANIZED BY GENRE
|
You may have noticed some changes to the Adult DVD shelves in recent months as we transitioned to organizing our DVD collection by genre. We are happy to share that the project is now complete, and you can now browse our adult DVDs based on genres such as Action, Comedy, Foreign, Holiday, Horror, Romance, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and more!
This project began in July of 2021 with the help of our Teen Summer Intern, Chloe, after librarians received several requests for specific DVD genres. With Chloe’s help, we started assigning genres to our collection of roughly 6,000 DVDs. Young Adult Librarian Lisa finished assigning genres once Chloe’s internship ended; Library Associate Susan re-catalogued all of the DVDs so they can be found on CountyCat; and the library clerks relabeled them so you can find them on the shelves. We hope this makes it easier for you to browse our collection and find something good to watch.

If you’re reading this library newsletter, I count you as a friend of the library. I suspect you check out library materials, utilize digital resources, or simply believe in the importance of a civic center that supports lifelong learning where all members of the community are welcome.
There is a more formal type of library advocate: a Friend of the Shorewood Public Library. About 170 families are Friends, and they support the library in a variety of ways. Some volunteer their time as an Adopt-A-Shelf volunteer or as a Friends trustee, and all donate toward a membership which supports the purchase of library materials, sponsors programs, and enables the library to pilot special initiatives.
This is a perfect month to highlight the essential role the Friends of the Shorewood Public Library play in the community. The Friends are co-coordinating Shorewood Reads 2022, our large scale community read event culminating in Steven Wright’s visit at the end of the month. And, at their March meeting, the Friends trustees approved funding two special initiatives: a second year of the popular wi-fi hotspot check-out program and a pilot project to support bathroom equity by supplying free period products in the women’s and gender neutral bathrooms.
Friends support in all forms makes the Shorewood Public Library thrive. Consider expanding your library love and community engagement by joining the Friends of the Shorewood Public Library. Learn more about the 501c3 organization on our website, on their Facebook page, or by reaching out to them via email at shwd.libraryfriends@gmail.com.

If, like me, you enjoy the antics and drama of competitive cooking shows, this romantic comedy is not one to miss! Love & Other Disasters follows the budding romance between two competitors on the show Chef's Special - the recently divorced and incredibly broke Dahlia and nonbinary no-nonsense audio engineer London. With plenty of hilarious moments, this romantic comedy is balanced by more serious elements as London and Dahlia navigate difficult families and online transphobia, all while falling in love on national television.

In this Goldilocks retelling, Goldilocks isn't a girl, but something much more whimsical - she's a goat! She's a goat who chews up everything she can get her teeth on which means she doesn't just eat Baby Bear's food, she eats his spoon too! This delightful tale will entertain readers young and young-at-heart.

In No One Goes Alone, best-selling nonfiction author Erik Larson takes on historical fiction by combining the scientific endeavors of the early 20th century with the supernatural. A group of researchers travel to the fictional Isle of Dorn where they set out to investigate a series of inexplicable disappearances. Can the unsolved mysteries be explained logically, or is there something more sinister at play? You won't find this book in print. No One Goes Alone is only available in audiobook format as Larson believes that ghost stories should be read aloud.
