Orange County Fire Authority | |
The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) is excited to welcome the public to its highly anticipated 2025 OCFA Open House, set to take place at its headquarters in Irvine. This annual event, which draws between 5,000 and 10,000 visitors, provides a unique opportunity for our communities to meet local firefighters, explore a variety of fire apparatus, and witness live demonstrations of lifesaving techniques.
Attendees will have the chance to get up close with a wide array of emergency response vehicles, including fire engines, trucks, airport firefighting engines, bulldozers, handcrew vehicles, and even a helicopter. These critical tools of the fire service will be on full display, allowing guests to gain a deeper understanding of the vital role they play in keeping Orange County safe.
In addition to exploring the fire apparatus, visitors will experience thrilling live demonstrations, including firefighting techniques, rescue operations, and the agility of trained fire service canines. These action-packed displays will showcase the skill and dedication of OCFA’s firefighters and first responders.
The 2025 OCFA Open House is a free, family-friendly event that welcomes all ages to participate. With interactive displays, educational booths, and hands-on activities, attendees will leave with a greater appreciation for fire safety and the hard work of Orange County’s fire personnel.

Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority to hold public workshop for the upcoming Southern Los Cerritos Wetlands Project
Seal Beach, Calif. – The Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority (LCWA) is pleased to host a public workshop in support of the Southern Los Cerritos Wetlands Restoration Project. Located in Seal Beach at the Orange County border, this project is the first major restoration project of the Los Cerritos Wetlands. The LCWA is actively finalizing the project’s landscaping plans and is seeking public input regarding certain design elements for a portion of the project referred to as the “State Lands Parcel”. This long vacant parcel fronting Pacific Coast Hwy at First Street is one of two properties that make up this exciting project. Former site of the Marina Palace and before that the Airport Club, the State Lands parcel has been closed to the public for 50+ years….until now, and for one day only. The LCWA is hosting a public workshop titled, “Envisioning Public Access for the Southern LCW.” The workshop will be held at the State Lands parcel on Saturday, March 22 from 10 AM to 12 PM. Following a brief presentation about the project, attendees will be able to visit various information stations, learn about potential design components for the State Lands parcel, and offer feedback. Members of the project team will be on hand to mingle and answer questions. Additionally, if you were ever at the Marina Palace or Airport Club, we’d love to hear your stories! It’s time for the tides! All are encouraged to attend the workshop and learn about this exciting project. To get to the State Lands parcel, turn east on First St. from Pacific Coast Highway. Our Staff Engagement Team organized the annual Staff Appreciation Day event on March 13, 2025. Interim City Manager, Patrick Gallegos kicked off the event by thanking every employee for being a part of the positive change in Seal Beach.
Staff appreciation directly impacts performance, boosting engagement, trust, and retention rates in the City. Employee recognition increases productivity and improves well-being and health. Spring 2025 Shoreline Brochure
The Spring 2025 Shoreline Brochure was published online Friday, January 31st, and registration for Spring classes begins on Monday, February 3rd. Information for recreation classes, surf lessons, and aquatic programs that occur between March 2025 and August 2025 are all included in the Spring Shoreline. Summer camp previews and registration will also be available with the Spring Shoreline Brochure. The brochure can be found on our City website at: https://www.sealbeachca.gov/Departments/Community-Services-Recreation/Recreation-Guide-Class-Info. Viewers can click directly on the classes listed in the brochure and be taken to our online registration website. Registration can also take place in person at City Hall or by mail with check payable to the City of Seal Beach.

Leisure World Transportation Presentation
On February 12th, Staff presented at a Leisure World Transportation presentation to inform residents about their transportation options within Leisure World as well as around the City. This event was sponsored by Optum, with presentations from GRF Transportation and Abrazar.

Senior Lunch Café
The Seal Beach Lunch Program is provided by Meals on Wheels Orange County (OC), which is held at the North Seal Beach Community Center. The Dine-In Lunch Café takes place Monday - Friday from 11:00am- 12:00pm. The Dine-In Lunch Program is open to adults ages 60 years and older. A suggested donation for lunch is $3.00. Our Men’s Tag-up Tuesdays Tuesday night softball league opened league play on Tuesday the 18th. We have another great showing with 7 teams competing for the title.

Department Highlights
There are currently 1,897 users registered for the Senior Transportation Program. The program is available for Seal Beach residents ages 60 years and older and consists of a pre-fixed shuttle route and Yellow Cab Taxi service. There are currently 376 pickleball members and 80 tennis members at the Seal Beach Tennis and Pickleball Center. To sign up for a membership, please contact staff at the Center, or call (562) 598-8624 for more information.

Sidewalk Maintenance
The City’s Public Works team recently completed sidewalk grinding around the City to improve safety and prevent potential hazards. By addressing uneven surfaces, staff has reduced any lips or lifts, smoothing out the sidewalks and eliminating trip risks.

Street Curb and Sign Marking Updates
Staff has been hard at work refreshing street curb and sign markings throughout the city. This ongoing effort aims to provide clearer parking guidelines, making it easier for both residents and visitors to identify designated parking areas.

Improvement on Seal Beach Boulevard: Solar Chevron Sign Reinstalled
Staff successfully reinstalled one of the solar-powered chevron signs that was damaged along Seal Beach Boulevard. These signs help guide drivers safely through our roads, and we’re pleased to have it back in place to enhance visibility and safety for all.

Lifeguard Activities 2/11/25 - 3/11/25
- Over the past month, there has been a steady increase in beach attendance. Spring Break in other areas and states has contributed to higher beach use during both midweek and weekend periods.
- Lifeguards have continued to train on rescue boat operations, boat handling, and deckhand skills in preparation for the upcoming season. Marine Safety partnered with Boat Tow US Long Beach to utilize their vessel for towing and side-tying training and drills.
- On February 26th, Seal Beach Marine Safety hosted an Orange County Regional Beach Driver Training. This event included agencies from across Orange County, focusing on safe driving techniques, sand terrain handling, emergency response, and effective beach driving practices. This collaboration shared knowledge, techniques, and best practices across departments, increasing awareness and efficiency.
- On March 4th, Chief Bailey and Lt. Bolin attended the Southern California Water Safety Summit in Huntington Beach, Ca. This two-day event was a unique coalition aimed at bringing stakeholders together to drive programs and policies to reduce drowning and aquatic injuries.
- On March 12th, Marine Safety provided CPR/AED training to Project Seek Volunteers of McGaugh Elementary. The training focused on critical lifesaving skills such as recognizing sudden cardiac arrest, using an AED, performing CPR, and assisting someone who is choking. Partnering with Project Seek helps equip local parents and community members with the skills to handle emergencies.

SBPD hosted both a Girl Scout and a Boy Scout tour of the police department, providing an engaging and educational experience where scouts learned about policing, explored police vehicles, and interacted with officers to gain insight into law enforcement careers.

Captain Nicholas and Community Development Director Smittle met with IT Manager Edwards to discuss ongoing IT projects, focusing on critical infrastructure updates, system security enhancements, and technological improvements to support public safety operations.

Hosted the monthly VIPS meeting and provided department updates, covering recent crime trends, volunteer opportunities, upcoming events, and recognizing the contributions of Volunteer in Policing Services members to the department.

Captain Ezroj and Lt. Hendrix met with Run Seal Beach planners to finalize logistics and coordination, ensuring traffic control measures, public safety staffing, and emergency response plans were in place for a smooth and secure event.

Captain Nicholas attended the McGaugh PTA meeting to discuss local crime trends and educate parents on e-bike safety, emphasizing responsible riding, helmet use, and the department’s efforts to promote safe streets for students.

SBPD partnered with the Orange County Healthcare Agency to distribute “Know Your Limit” anti-DUI materials at local bars ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, engaging patrons in conversations about responsible drinking and reinforcing the dangers of impaired driving.

Seal Beach Police Department with the assistance of the Officer of Traffic and Safety completed an DUI Check Point on March 7th. The checkpoint is part of an ongoing grant with OTS to keep the roadway a safer place. As a result of the checkpoint two (2) drivers were arrested for suspicion of driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Additionally, the California Highway Patrol, Laguna Beach and Garden Grove PD assisted with the checkpoint staffing.

Seal Beach Police Department with the assistance of the Officer of Traffic and Safety completed a Bicycle and Pedestrian safety enforcement day on March 8th. The goal is to help educate bicyclists and pedestrians on safety issues in and around the roadways. As a result of this outing several citations were issued and numerous bicyclists were educated on the rules of the road.

Seal Beach Officers arrested a subject for theft from a commercial business. During the course of the arrest the suspect was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm. This arrest shows the potential damagers officers in Seal Beach are dealing with on a day-to-day basis. The potential dangers on all calls for service for police officers should be recognized.
