Letter from the Principal
We have had a busy time at Trivium with Donuts with Dudes, sports, planning for the Fall Festival, and of course, school!  We had to divide the donut adventure into two days, and it was a lot of fun to see our children with their “Dudes.”  Thanks for the PIE moms who worked hard to decorate the patio and prepare for the event.  It was sweet to see our children with their dads and grandfathers. The photo booth was a great addition.

Sports are in full swing, and our Knights are doing great.  We are grateful for our fans cheering on our athletes.  Our coaches are working hard to keep our Knights prepared for the games.  Somehow, they transition from one sport to the next without disruption.

If you have not purchased a yearbook, please do.  Our staff is working hard every day to document this school year in pictures.  This is our first year to have a K-12 school, so we are hopeful everyone will buy a yearbook to celebrate this special year.

Our first Fall Festival was a success despite the dreary weather. Our moms worked all day to prepare for the event, and it was a lovely evening. We also got to shop the Book Fair, which is always a hit with our students.  It is always nice to have our parents on campus.  The lobster food truck and Chik Fil A provided a wonderful feast for all our Knights.  We also had many cakes, cookies, and goodies for the Cake Walk.  Without our parents, these events would not be possible. Our parents worked tirelessly.

We also need to thank our carpool volunteers who work each morning and afternoon to get our students into a car safely.  Ray Parker and Eric Pechacek arrive early and stay late to make sure everyone gets in and out of school, and we are grateful for the other parents who join them.  We are thankful for their service.

Our students in several grade levels had the opportunity to practice voting to learn the proper procedures.  We have many things going on at once keeping us all on our toes.  We are grateful for the community we have and the participation from the parents and students.

We are all counting down to Thanksgiving when we can enjoy a week away from school and feast on turkey and pumpkin pie. As always, we are grateful for our parents who support us and keep us happy with goodies and help.

Proud to be a Knight,
Marsha Cawthon

Curriculum Highlights
Please come support STEM education at Trivium by attending our first annual family STEM Night on Tuesday, November 15 from 5:30-7:30 PM! We have been marketing this event all month, and are so excited to see the amount of interest and support the Trivium community is already showing.  This night will be filled with exciting hands-on learning about a variety of scientific concepts. The flight simulator experience brought to us by CR Smith Museum is already sold out, but there are 8 other stations that are open for everyone to experience! Tickets are $5 per adult and $2 per child. The mission of this fundraiser is to bring awareness and excitement about STEM education to our campus, as well as raise funds to expand our inventory of consumable science supplies and non-consumable science & math equipment. We hope to see you there!

Speech and Debate
Our speech and debate team made Trivium history on Monday!
They competed in the Regional UIL Congressional Debate Competition for the first time and were crowned UIL Conference 1A Team Champions. In addition, individual awards for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th place as well as Outstanding Presiding Officer were brought home. The top three will move on to the UIL State Competition in Austin in January. Way to go, Knights!
Art
This semester in Mr. Davis’s secondary art classes they’re learning about the different types of perspective drawing techniques so that students will be able to create more realistic backgrounds.

We have some very talented artists at Trivium, and we’re very proud of them.
Choir
We are having so many firsts this year for our secondary students! Four out of four middle school students and four out of four high school students auditioned for the All-Region Choir and made it. They had the opportunity to perform in a beautiful concert on the TWU campus on Saturday, November 5. Our four high school students also earned the opportunity to move on to Pre-Area in a process to audition for the All-State Choir. Congratulations to our singing Knights!
Counselor Corner
We have closed out a fun-filled Red Ribbon Week. K-12 students participated in discussions about the dangers of drugs, personal safety, and saying no to drugs (and the why behind it). A special treat was when Trivium's High School Student Council created and presented drug presentations for 7th-12th graders.

Even though we close out Red Ribbon Week, it does not mean that we stop these crucial conversations. We would like to work together with you on how to talk to your children and teens about drugs and personal safety.

"If your child gets in the habit of talking with you while they’re young, they’ll feel more comfortable coming to you when they’re older. That’s true for any sensitive subject. The key in having these conversations is to ask questions in a nonjudgmental way, be curious, and take time to listen. Down the road, that will help your child feel safer coming to you if they have questions or need your help."

When is an appropriate age to talk to my child about drugs?

PreK- 1st: Personal Safety Talks are appropriate. For example: body boundaries, respecting private parts, and not taking any medication, vitamins, OTC drugs on their own or someone other than their parents/trusted family member

2nd-3rd- When children are 8-9, this is the time to start talking more specifically about drugs, alcohol and tobacco per How and When, to Talk to your Child About Drugs. Continue to discuss how to safety take medication

3rd-6th- Having more specific conversations with them, not at them. Let it happen naturally. For example, when it comes up on TV or in the movies, have a casual conversation. You are building a foundation for open communication on difficult subjects and one day they will be faced with a choice. Continue to talk about taking medication appropriately

Teenagers: Keep the conversation open and let it happen naturally. Discuss what is going on the news (exp. Fentanyl poisoning as written on previous Bloomz post, dealers marketing to kids, etc), TV, and movie references. Throw in some scenerious like "What would you do if...." As much as we don't want to admit it, it is only a matter of time before they are faced with a choice, or they already have. Continue to openly talk about taking medication appropriately and safely. Talk to teens about what specific mediations are for and what specific drugs look like. Knowledge is power. I'd rather them learn from you than from their peers, social media, or others.

Football
Our flag football teams all had great seasons this year. Our 4th-8th grade team battled and finished 3rd in their division. They laid the groundwork for a great future. Our 6th-8th grade team competed in the premier division and finished 2nd! They made it to the playoffs and fought hard but lost in the semis. Our high school football team competed for the first time at the varsity level. The played some really tough games and finished 3rd in their division.
Volleyball
The volleyball teams all finished 1st in their divisions, were 1st place seeds, and made it to at least the semi-finals in the playoffs. The JV high school team lost a tough match last Monday night but fought to the bitter end. We are so proud of this group of seniors who showed the underclassmen how to compete with class.

Our 4th-6th grade team won in the playoffs and played their championship game on Saturday. The girls lost in a close game and never gave up!

Our 6th-8th grade team made it all the way to the semifinals and played last Wednesday at our Trivium gym. They lost in a tough game and played well.
Cross Country
Trivium history was made as we competed in our first regional cross country meet! Our nine athletes competed in South Dallas against 30+ schools across North Texas.

New personal records were made, and we had one student qualify for state. Congratulations to Ryan Gerard placing 7th out of 141 middle school boys! Congratulations to all our athletes Noah Lac, Bella Sosa, William Dawson, Ethan Lija, Asher Auletta, Peyton Smith, Matilda Lija and Riley Tomlin.

APEX Fun Run!
We had another successful fun run this year. We love having their team on campus working with the kids through character building lessons. Our APEX team is so good at engaging with the kids and making the two weeks that they’re on campus so fun. They are like celebrities around here!

The students ran and ran their hearts out, most surpassing 36 laps! We’re so appreciative of all the support from the families and friends for our runners. This is the biggest fundraiser for the school, and it was the best year yet!
Knight Light
Don't we all need a little good news right now? In the midst of all the goings on in the world, let's take a moment each week to focus on something positive.
By chance, our kinder team and an 8th grade trio matched for book character dress up day!
Secondary science students are having a great year with lots of hands-on labs. They celebrated mole day in chemistry recently.
Donuts with Dudes was a great event for students to gather with the male role models in their lives.
Attendance Reminders
Trivium is a public charter school and therefore must follow state mandates regarding attendance.

*Please note- Texas law requires a district to retain students who are not in school at least 90% of the time a class meets. This includes excused and unexcused absences. Also, per state law, after a student acquires 10 unexcused absences, districts are required to file truancy.

When a student is absent, parents must send an email to attendance@triviumacademytx.com on the night before or morning of a student’s absence.

When students are absent, we must have a note from the parent or doctor concerning his/her absence(s) when he/she returns to school. If a student does not have a note when he/she returns to school, an unexcused absence will be recorded for those days. A two-day grace period will be extended to the student to bring in a note. No more than 3 parent notes per semester will be accepted.

Notes must include the following to be accepted:
  •  Student’s first and last name
  •  Grade level
  •  Days and dates missed
  •  Reason for absence(s)
  •  Parent’s signature
  •  Contact numbers
