Concord-Padgett Regional Airport Generates $900 Million Economic Impact
The City of Concord, long known for its high-performance living and world-class motorsports, has quickly become one of the region’s most desirable places to live and work. Concord is now the 10th largest and 6th fastest growing city in North Carolina, and continues to attract record economic development from a diverse mix of industries, including household names like Red Bull, Eli Lilly, Kroger, and NASCAR. Helping to fuel the city’s success is Concord-Padgett Regional Airport, one of North Carolina’s top performing commercial and corporate general aviation airports.

According to The State of Aviation report released by the N.C. Department of Transportation Division of Aviation, Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (JQF) contributes over $900 million to the local economy, $48 million in tax revenue, supports 4,430 local jobs, and serves the second highest population base in the state with more than 1.4 million individuals residing within 30 minutes of the airport. The airport has 226 based aircraft and is home to NASCAR’s air force as well as several flight schools.
Downtown Streetscape Update
Temporary Lighting Installed On Union Street
The first phase of work along Market St is complete, with approximately 227 feet of new storm drain piping installed. Soon after moving to Barbrick Ave, work came to a stop due to existing utility conflicts. There were unknown underground utilities that could not be moved and were in direct conflict with the 42 inch storm drain piping that must be installed. This required the city’s Engineers and contractors to identify a cost effective solution, revise work plans, and order materials. After a lengthier than expected delay, materials were delivered last week and work to install the new 42 inch storm drain pipes has resumed along Barbrick.
There is an existing underground electric vault on Barbrick Ave that will need to be removed when the new storm drains are installed. When that happens, power will be cut off to the existing street lights on Union St. To prepare for this, contractors installed temporary, solar-powered lighting along Union St last week. The temporary lighting will ensure residents and visitors can continue to safely enjoy all of the shops, restaurants and venues our charming downtown has to offer, no matter the time of day or night.
