MAYOR DEMINGS' DIGEST

Hello everyone!

Spring is here, and visitors and tourists are flocking to our beautiful County to enjoy its bountiful offerings from gorgeous parks and lakes to popular area attractions. It is a time when families and friends play together and make memories to last a lifetime.

April will be a busy month here for many reasons. This Thursday (April 7) is “407 Day,” when we invite residents to celebrate their hometown pride by supporting local businesses. This special event is inspired by our region’s longtime area code, 407. Go out and visit your favorite local restaurant, shop, boutique or other business and share your photos and comments on social media using hashtag #407Day.

I am honored to host the 2022 Orange County Regional Economic Summit, in collaboration with the Orlando Economic Partnership, on Thursday, April 21. This yearly event highlights the local and state economy. The summit this year will also focus on how the region’s business and transportation infrastructure can support our County’s upward trajectory for economic growth and progress. The half-day summit takes place at Full Sail University. Registration is required.

April 22 is Earth Day, and all month we will spotlight the tremendous work being done across Orange County on environmental programs and the latest on climate change, and we will also let you know how you can take part in saving our planet. Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram as well as visiting the Orange County Newsroom for feature stories and updates.

Our online transportation survey will be available through April 25, so there is still time to tell us your thoughts on transportation needs in Orange County. This is your opportunity to let us know what is important to you as we look at the future of transportation, including improving and investing in mass transit, bicycle and pedestrian safety, and managing traffic congestion. The proposed one-cent sales tax increase for improving transportation goes before the Orange County Board of County Commissioners on April 26 for approval to go on the November ballot. I urge you to take the survey and let us know your thoughts.

I wish everyone the very best.

Happy Passover and Happy Easter!
