This space is dedicated to a series of informational articles regarding the Cottonwood Pool Project for the next few weeks. Last week focused on the initial reasons a project was considered. This week will focus on the evolution of Conceptual Design Version 4.0.
As the Pool Task Force and Board worked with staff and the Pool Architects to create multiple options, homeowner input drove most of the design. Literally hundreds of suggestions were taken over the past 6 months and incorporated into Version 4.0. Here are some of the main upgrades compared to our current pool.
- Lap pool – the new lap pool will feature 4 consistent lanes, each being exactly the same width and depth across the entire pool. The current lap lanes are too narrow for most swimmers and have inconsistent depth in several areas. While Version 4.0 depth shows 5 feet, recent requests to make it slightly shallower will be considered in the final design. Some homeowners would like to be able to also Water Walk in this area – which may drive the depth to 4’6”. The width of each lap lane is a consistent 6’6”.
- Hot Tub/Spa – Early concepts of this feature would comfortably seat only 4-6 people. Version 4.0 was expanded to over 200 square feet and should comfortably seat 12 people.
- Play and programmable areas. The current pool has areas for use of groups such as water volleyball and water aerobics. Version 4.0 has increased areas for these types of uses with over 3,000 square feet of space at exactly 4-foot depth. This is larger than our current pool and will have space for multi-purpose use. The website shows a version with a water volleyball area that is twice as large as our current space.
- Deep end – Version 3.5 did not offer a deep end. After listening to homeowner input, Version 4.0 was changed to eliminate a shallow water entry and added space for a deep end that is approximately 865 square feet with a depth of 7-feet at the deepest point. The current pool is 825 square feet with depths of 6-8 feet.
- Shade – Version 4.0 will have much improved shade structures placed throughout the facility in key locations.
- Lighting and Water Feature – A beautiful fountain is planned in Version 4.0 and updated LED lighting will be added throughout the facility.
- Sunbathing Area – Version 4.0 has a great location for sunbathing – on a peninsula located between the lap pool and the main pool.
- New Pool Furniture – the entire facility will be updated with new chairs, loungers, tables, and umbrellas.
- Deck Space – the removal of unnecessary planters and steps will create an additional 4,000 square feet of deck space!
- Bathrooms – the current bathroom will be updated with new fixtures and paint. Should the Code Review require additional bathrooms, they will be included in the project.
The Special Assessment vote for funding Version 4.0 will be held from March 19-April 2. More information will be delivered on the voting process in upcoming publications.
