St. Brendan Weekly Bulletin
March 30, 2022
The mission of St. Brendan Catholic School, in partnership with parents and our parish community, embraces a Catholic Identity centered on the Eucharist to empower our students to act as Disciples of Christ, use their God-given gifts in service to the Church and community, and achieve academic excellence.
5th Grade students did a beautiful job leading Mass this past Sunday.
From the Principal
Dear St. Brendan families,

As a reminder, there is no school this Friday for a teacher accreditation in-service.

On Friday, April 8th St. Brendan School will be hosting the Lent soup supper in the church narthex. I invite all families to join!  We are in need of families to bring a soup. If you would like to bring a soup please sign up here.
The soup supper will be followed by St. Stephen the Martyr Living Stations of the Cross.

Looking ahead to Holy Week, on Holy Thursday Father Wichert and the 8th grade students will lead the school in a prayer service at 8:45 a.m. in the church. On Good Friday, the 7th grade students will lead us in a living station of the cross at 9 a.m. in the church. Families are welcome to join us!

We have a  NOON dismissal on Good Friday and there will be NO extended care in the afternoon. Noon is a significant time as it begins the three hours of Christ’s suffering on the cross. It is appropriate to observe the time from noon until Christ’s death at 3 p.m. All students and staff will exit the building to carpool in SILENCE at noon to observe this time.

We have a prayer request for our school community. The mother of Mrs. Compton, our 5th grade teacher, passed away this week. Our hearts and prayers go out to Mrs. Compton and her family during this difficult time. Thank you for keeping her in your prayers.

Blessings,
Catherine Shumate
Covid-19 Dashboard
We will be using our weekly bulletin to communicate positive Covid-19 cases in our community.

Dashboard Update for the week of March 23 - 30
Positive Covid-19 Cases: 1 case

If Your Child Develops Symptoms, What Should You Do?
  • Regardless of vaccination status, keep your child home.
  • Students should have a COVID-19 test (rapid home test and/or PCR test) performed as soon as possible after symptoms present. The school can offer free testing to your child. Please call or e-mail Mrs. Murnane: secretary@school.saintbrendan.org to arrange for testing.
  • Siblings of students that develop symptoms, or test positive, are encouraged to wear a high-quality, well-fitting mask (KN95) to school to prevent any potential spread in others grades/classrooms until COVID test results are available.

St. Brendan School remains committed to ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for our students, faculty, and staff. Please contact the main office if you have any questions or concerns.
Catholic Corner
During Lent we are called to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Here are some ways to focus on those aspects of Lent.
Prayer: Last Friday Pope Francis consecrated the world, but specifically Russia and Ukraine, to Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Catholic News Agency has a great summary of why this was done and the different aspects of the consecration. If you’d like to read the consecration prayer, the Vatican Archives has it.
Fasting: Soup Supper sponsored by St. Brendan School on Friday April 8th needs YOU! We are in need of people to bring soups and to volunteer for set up and clean up. This is a great opportunity to grow in community with the parish and be a positive witness of the school community’s commitment to Stewardship. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c48a5a82ea4f94-soup
Almsgiving: Cross Catholic Outreach has many opportunities to help those less fortunate. They have programs for food, water, housing, education, vulnerable children, microenterprise, disaster relief (including a special fund just for the victims in Ukraine), and medical. The Rice Bowl is run through another organization, Catholic Relief Services, which provides assistance to those in need. Catholic Community Services provides assistance for those in our local community. St. Vincent de Paul Society also has local assistance programs. These are all great places to focus your giving during lent.
Soup Supper hosted by St. Brendan School - April 8th
We need LOTS of soups! Please consider signing up to bring a family sized serving of your favorite non-meat soup. If you can’t drop it off at the Church kitchen, you can bring the soup (preferably in a crockpot or Instapot, but soup pots are OK too) to the school office and drop off at the end of the school day on April 8th and we will make sure it is delivered to the Church and your pot is available for you to pick up from the school office on Monday!
