FLC Treasurer's Financial Update:

Dear FLC Congregation,

We are so lucky to have you as a member of the FLC community. Thank you for your support and continued participation. We are happy to provide congregants like you with programs and events that lift us up and remind us of the importance of having a giving spirit.

To continue offering the services that we do, we are here to request an increase in giving throughout the remainder of 2022. Through September, FLC is behind our revenue budget by $15,794. Our 4th quarter budgeted revenue is $158,950 which means that in total we need to generate giving of approximately $175,000 prior to December 31. Please take a look at your current financial situation and see if there is a way you can help FLC meet its revenue budget. By doing so, this will allow for sufficient funds so FLC does not have to dip into reserve accounts to pay for general expenses.

Please visit the FLC website for the various ways in which you can donate:

 http://www.firstlutheranblair.org/giving/ [firstlutheranblair.org]

If you have any questions about how to donate, please feel free to contact the church office at 402-426-4073. You can also stop by the church’s main office in person or drop your donation in the collection plate during our next service.

On behalf of the church council, thank you again for being such an important part of the FLC community.

Sincerely,

Chad Leggott

EQUAL EXCHANGE Fair Traded products--coffee, tea, chocolate, and nuts--will again be offered at FLC on Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6, and at the Annual Craft Fair Alternative Gift Exhibit on Saturday, November 19, and during the following weeks for Alternative gift shopping!  These items can make great "stocking stuffers."

Our ELCA WORLD HUNGER EMPHASIS will be on Wednesday, November 9, and Saturday and Sunday, November 12 and 13.  You will receive informational flyers and offering envelopes at that time.  We are challenged by the fact that 900 million people around the world face chronic hunger!  As members of the ELCA, one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, we are uniquely positioned to reach communities in need, and to help secure long-term sustainable change. COVID-19, the tragic war in Ukraine, hurricanes, and fires, have all contributed to greater need than ever before! Our gifts to ELCA World Hunger are at work in the world and can make a tremendous difference as we cling to the promise: "And God is able to provide you with ever blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work" (2 Cor. 9:8).

Our CHRISTMAS ALTERNATIVE GIFT EXHIBIT will appear at the November 19 FLC Craft Fair and throughout the Advent Season.  It could solve your dilemma of what to buy for "the person who has everything" and help others in need--a win-win situation! Added this year will be information about Global Missions and Global Health Ministries featuring especially the mission field of Madagascar.

THANKOFFERINGS is Going on Now through November 6th

Women of First Lutheran Church

At worship you are being given a “Women of the ELCA Thankoffering envelope.” The tradition of giving “Thankofferings” out of gratitude to God for our many blessings is more than 100 years old and is grounded in our celebration of community. Thankofferings support our partnership with God in making Christ known to to all the world. They also support the total ministries of the Women of the ELCA, as seen below.

Thankofferings:

Encourage women to respond monetarily as they give thanks.

Help Women of the ELCA  provide needed resources for : events, programs, leadership training, global education, anti-racism work, grants, scholarships, social media outreach, ecumenical collaboration, sex trafficking awareness and prevention, and much more.

Help women of the ELCA provide an annual gift to the ELCA that recognizes our partnership with ELCA as a whole.

We give thanks for YOU, our sisters in Christ. Please return your Thankoffering envelope at one of our services or you may also drop it off at the church office at any time. Please respond by Sunday November 6th.

News from Christian Growth Board:

Dear Members and Friends of First Lutheran Church:

The purpose of this letter is to ask each of you to consider the Christian Growth Fund ministry in your estate planning, including Wills, Trusts and even designating the Fund as a beneficiary for a portion of life insurance or retirement plans.

The Christian Growth Fund is essentially an endowment fund established by FLC. The bylaws of the church direct that all undesignated gifts, regardless of amount, from estates and trusts be placed in this fund. The by-laws provide that 10% of each gift received may be distributed to a charitable or religious purpose and the remaining 90% invested. The income from those investments is then used to support the benevolent mission of FLC.

Last year we distributed over $60,000 towards the benevolent mission of First Lutheran Church (FLC). Some of the recipients of Christian Growth Funds include: college scholarships, Lutheran Family Services, Snack Pack Program, Joseph’s Coat, Table Grace Ministries, Carol Joy Holling, Washington County Ministerial Associate, Mosaic Of Omaha, TeamMates of Blair, Men’s Group, The Bridge Crisis Center, FLC Senior Lunches, FLC Youth Travel Fund, Love Days, Vacation Bible School, Tanzania Ministries, Lekura Parish, ELCA World Hunger, Bread for the World, Habitat for Humanity, Oaks Indian Center, and ELCA Disaster Relief.

A few simple steps to consider include:

  1. Decide if you want to provide a gift.
  2. Determine what portion of your estate you wish to gift. 10%, 25% or a specific amount.
  3. Contact your attorney, financial planner, life insurance agent or retirement custodian and inform them of your intentions.
  4. Please be sure to inform them that undesignated gifts to FLC and gifts specifically directed to the Fund will go to the Fund. Gifts specifically designated for such purposes as payment of church debt will NOT go to the Fund, but will instead go to the appropriate account of the church.
  5. If you, your attorney or financial advisor need more information, please call the church office and they will be directed to someone who can answer questions about Christian Growth Fund and its mission.

Please prayerfully consider a gift to First Lutheran Church Christian Growth Fund.

Sincerely,

Christian Growth Fund Board
