When Daynee Hernandez-Serpa fled her home in Cuba for the United States, she had no friends or family to assist her. She had just completed her bachelor's degree in physical therapy in Cuba, but when she tried to further her education here, she met nothing but closed doors.
To improve her job prospects, Daynee enrolled in ESL classes through Rubicon Programs. Her bilingual career coach Diana Bonilla told her about WIOA, and Daynee's dreams started to take flight. She applied for and was accepted into the phlebotomy program at Vasco Career College, which is working with her unique educational background.
As the sole provider for her family of four in Cuba, 24-year-old Daynee hopes to further her medical career and looks forward to the day when she can bring her whole family to the United States.
"I can't express enough what I feel," Daynee said. "I am so blessed to be going to school, and now I can help my family in Cuba!"
