Advent Retreat: a Rule of Life

What does it mean to practice the way of Jesus?
What does it mean for me to practice the way of Jesus?
Anyone who has ever wondered about those two questions is invited to join us for a morning retreat at St. David's on December 4, 9am - 11:30am. A ‘Rule of Life’ is a set of practices that Christians commit to, individually or in groups, to shape the way they live out their faith. Advent, the start of the Christian year, is the perfect time to look back at what practices have sustained our life and what new ways we might be called to step into faith. Please bring a journal as you are able.
No need to register--just show up! And bring a friend...or even two!

Indoor Worship with Holy Eucharist
Sunday, December 5 at 8:00 and 9:30

We will continue to worship indoors this coming Sunday at both 8:00 and 9:30.
Masks are required and we ask that you leave space between yourselves and others if possible. The nursery will be available during the 9:30 service. Please note that services will continue to be Livestreamed on Facebook and uploaded to YouTube for those who wish to worship virtually.

Update on Children and Youth Programming |
|
Children's Ministry: Godly Play will be held in the Undercroft during the 9:30 service.
Middle School Ministry: Youth Group will gather from 6:45-8:15pm this Wednesday, December 8th.
High School Ministry: Youth Group will be held this Sunday, December 5th at St. David's. Time Change: due to rising COVID numbers we will not be able to eat together. We will gather from 6:45-8:00pm until further notice.
Advent At-Home Practices Booklet: If you haven't picked up an advent booklet and poster that follow this year's theme, "Less is More", make sure to grab them on your way out of worship on Sunday, or send an email to [email protected] for a digital version.

Saint Nicholas Day Treat Bags |
|
Saint Nicholas Day Treat Bags will be available this Sunday for parents to discreetly bring home and gift to their children on the morning of St. Nicholas day, Monday, December 6th. St. Nicholas was a Bishop during the third century. A devout Christian, he used his inheritance to assist the needy, sick, and suffering. Bishop Nicholas became known throughout the land for his generosity to those in need, his love for children, and his concern for sailors and ships. The custom is for children to leave out their shoes the night before St. Nicholas Day, for St. Nicholas to fill with goodies.
St. Nicholas, lover of the poor and patron saint of children, is a model of how Christians are meant to live. A bishop, Nicholas put Jesus Christ at the center of his life, his ministry, his entire existence. We can embrace true St. Nicholas traditions as one way to claim the true center of Christmas—the birth of Jesus. Such a focus helps restore balance to increasingly materialistic and stress-filled Advent and Christmas seasons. Remember, Less is More!

Advent Hymn Sing with Poetry, Sunday, Dec. 12, 4:00 PM |

For those who would like a chance to sing together, we’re offering this musical prayer gathering, featuring Advent hymns both familiar and new. Attendees will be masked and distanced, and the gathering will last under an hour. Music will be supplemented with contemplative poetry for the season. |

Youth Cookie Bake: All 5th-12th graders are invited to help bake and decorate cookies on Saturday, December 18th from 1:00-4:00pm. The cookies will be delivered the next day to the homes we carol to after church on the 19th. Lake Minnetonka Care Center Holiday Giving Tree

The generosity of St David’s parishioners never ceases to amaze me. All but two gift tags were taken the first Sunday the Giving Tree was up, and this past Sunday the last two quickly went! Much thanks to all who are participating in this most important outreach opportunity. All at LMCC are so appreciative.
Remember to have your wrapped gift, with resident name tag attached, to the church no later than December 19th. We will be delivering all these gifts that same day after church along with our annual Christmas Caroling festivities!

St. David's Book Club News |
|
St. David’s Book Club will meet on Tuesday, 12/7 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm via Zoom. After a short 2022 planning meeting, we will be discussing Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson. The book was a New York Times best seller and New York Times Notable Book of the Year.
Moving forward and backward in time, Jacqueline Woodson's taut and powerful new novel uncovers the role that history and community have played in the experiences, decisions, and relationships of these families, and in the life of the new child.
As the book opens in 2001, it is the evening of sixteen-year-old Melody's coming of age ceremony in her grandparents' Brooklyn brownstone. Watched lovingly by her relatives and friends, making her entrance to the music of Prince, she wears a special custom-made dress. But the event is not without poignancy. Sixteen years earlier, that very dress was measured and sewn for a different wearer: Melody's mother, for her own ceremony-- a celebration that ultimately never took place.

In this time of the coronavirus pandemic, the need to reach our most vulnerable parishioners has been great. Our 11 person Pastoral Care Team has stepped up to the plate and has been regularly calling around 24 St. David's members and families to share in remote fellowship, prayer, and conversation to determine if we, as a community, could help address any of their unmet needs. We are pleased to report that virtually all of these parishioners are doing well so far and have their basic needs met by their facilities and/or family. They are in good spirits and continue to remain resilient in the face of isolation and uncertainty.

We will include all individuals in the prayers list for four consecutive weeks, and then they will be removed from the list. If the prayer need is ongoing, please reach out and we will keep their names on the list. If anyone's prayer need is shorter than four weeks, please also note that. This way we will keep all prayer lists updated and recent.
