Volume 12, Issue 1 | January 2023

A new year has begun, a new opportunity to start fresh. Of course, every second, every breath gives us the opportunity to start anew.

Still, a new year brings to my attention that a new cycle of life is beginning. Rather than moving towards shorter days with more darkness and colder weather, we are heading in the direction of longer days of light and milder weather (in the northern hemisphere, at least). That always gives me hope and makes me feel freer. New possibilities abound and, with hope, change can come.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday is acknowledged during the month of January, and I am reminded of Dr. King’s hope and perseverance as he sought change. He said, "We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope." I believe that as long as there is hope, there is life, and from there, anything and everything is possible!

There is so much goodness shining through individuals and they provide hope in this seemingly increasing insane world. I read more and more about people making a meaningful, positive difference in the lives of others and have shared a few stories below. I cried while reading them as my heart was so touched. My hope in humanity increased and I knew Spirit was a part of it all.

I regularly listen to the following chant, "The Longtime Sun" sung by Sirgun Kaur. It's a prayer and an affirmation for me and I find it peaceful, inspiring, and hopeful. Enjoy!

Everything That is Done...

Spirituality

Does Hope Lead to Spirituality, or Does Spirituality Lead to Hope?

We walked into the small room with eight men wearing bright orange jumpsuits; one man’s presence surprised us. “Kevin, weren’t you going to get out on work release?!” He smiled. “I told my lawyer I wanted to stay in. I want to re-do the course with you guys.”

At that moment, Kevin was no longer the hope-starved person we met seven weeks prior. He just demonstrated the first bloom of hope — he chose to be hopeful.

People Making a Difference

Hope in Humanity

The month of December provides many opportunities for people to make a difference, especially perhaps due to the Light inherent in the holiday season—and the ofttimes inclement weather!

This past December the weather in Buffalo, NY turned deadly. You may have read about some of the acts of nothing less than bravery and heroism. Here are a few that give me hope in humanity:

A man broke into a high school to shelter dozens.

A barber turned his shop into a shelter.

Buffalo woman saves man with severe frostbite after getting him out of the storm and pleading for help in a Facebook livestream.

The following story is about a young widow’s experience at Christmas time 15 years ago. It is never too late to share a story of hope!

When a Doorbell’s Ring Means Hope "It was as if someone was saying to us, “You are seen. You are loved.”"

A belated Happy New Year!

May 2023 bring you an abundance of blessings in all areas of your life, and may you be filled with a newfound hope in people... Life... Spirit!

Blessings,

You, Me, and Spirit

I was a devout atheist until 32 years ago when I "came to believe" in a Power greater than myself. Thanks to hearing the novel idea (well, at least it was to me!) that one could choose their own concept of God—and name too (Spirit, The Great Mystery, All That Is, etc.)—and the workings of synchronicity, I embarked on a new way of thinking, a new way of living, a new way of being in the world and with others. It impacted all aspects of my life and relationships.

Since that time of commencing my conscious spiritual journey, I have endeavored to remember The Presence in all that is, all whom I meet, and all that I do—including working with clients in my own business, academia, and the corporate world. I strive to be of service and to nurture the human spirit in all environments.
