Help Make Water Quality
Top Priority
for the Cedar-Isles Master Plan
CIDNA is working to ensure that water quality is the top priority of the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board's (MPRB's) 20-year Cedar Isles Master Plan.

In recent years, Cedar Lake has become "eutrophic" — that is, it suffers from diminished oxygen to support plant and animal life. Since Cedar feeds Lake of the Isles and Bde Maka Ska, all three lakes will die if this long-range plan doesn't adequately address the water-quality problem.

What you can do:
  • Learn more about Cedar and Isles water quality on this special page on CIDNA's website.
  • Attend a Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) on Zoom. Here's the link on on the Park Board website. Next one is April 7.
  • Contact our 4th District MPRB Commissioner, Elizabeth Shaffer, and MPRB Chair (and member at-large) Meg Forney. Let them know the MPRB needs to put water quality first.

Annual Meeting — May 11, 7:00
Consider joining the CIDNA board
Spring! It's a time to re-engage with friends and neighbors — at CIDNA's annual meeting.

It will be held Wednesday, May 11, from 7 to 8:30 — on Zoom, for safety's sake. As usual, we will offer a stimulating program — to be announced soon — plus accountability reports from local elected officials and CIDNA.

Register here to get the Zoom link. Watch your mailbox for more information.

Perhaps you're thinking it's time to get more involved with our beautiful Cedar-Isles-Dean neighborhood — with events ranging from Summer Solstice to traffic safety, Tai Chi in the Park to water quality. Consider contributing your leadership to these and other projects by running for a position on the CIDNA board. There are several open positions.

Apply by filling out this Board Nomination Form or by nominating yourself at the meeting (in which case, you'll be asked to respond to the same questions orally).

A New Tree for Your Property?
Through the City Trees Program, Minneapolis property owners can order 5- to 8-foot trees for $30 each to plant on their private property.

This year, 1,800 trees are available in 30 varieties, including large and medium shade trees, fruit trees, evergreens and flowering trees. Two trees can be ordered per property. Trees are provided by the Tree Trust. Comparable trees cost about $150 at a nursery.

Trees make your property, and our city, beautiful. They help filter pollutants out of the air and reduce the heat-island effect in a city. They save energy by providing shade in the summer and protecting against wind in the winter. Trees reduce the amount of stormwater runoff into lakes and rivers. They even help reduce stress.
