Career Exploration and Counseling
Finding a career path that suits your skills, interests and abilities takes time and effort. There are lots of choices out there, too. If you don’t know which way to turn, University Division’s Career Counseling services are here to help.

They offer services to help students assess their interests and strengths and discover how to identify academic subjects that align and learn about majoring in those disciplines.

Leadership Opportunities
Emerging Leaders offers USI first-year students the opportunity to develop new leadership skills, make new friends and contribute to the USI community. Weekly sessions are held on Mondays from 3-4:30 p.m. during the spring semester. Applications are due by Sunday, September 25, at USI.edu/Leadership.
Attend this year's Student Leadership Retreat on Saturday, September 24 from 9 am to 3 pm to discover your leadership style, meet student leaders, and learn about effective leadership. This is a free on-campus program. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Registration ends Friday, September 16 at USI.edu/LeaderRetreat
National Competitive Awards and Scholarships
USI wants to support students' long-term goals. These awards are money granted by national and international foundations to help students study abroad, finance graduate school, teach abroad or experience career-changing internships.

Many of these programs are the most prestigious academic awards available to undergraduate and graduate students. Start thinking now about the next five years. As a first-year student, this is the perfect time to start planning for the future.
Sexual Assault Prevention and Alcohol Education Training
Completing Sexual Assault Prevention and Alcohol Edu trainings are required for all first-year students and all student-athletes. We also encourage all our students to complete the training as our policies and processes have changed to be consistent with federal guidelines. Students should have received an email invitation in their USI Eagles email account.

Students can access these trainings by clicking on the link in the email invitation or by logging into their myUSI account and clicking on the Everfi app, a giant white E in a field of orange (please see picture).

Students should complete the trainings before October 1, 2022. Completing the trainings will ensure that a hold is not placed on a student's account. Holds will prevent students from registering for Spring and Summer 2023 classes.

Please help us to keep our campus community safe and healthy. Completing these trainings are one way to achieve this goal.
Phishing and Spam Emails
Phishing is an online scam where criminals send an email that appears to be from a legitimate company and ask you to provide sensitive information. At USI we see these phishing attempts increase at the start of a new semester.

Ways to spot a phishing email
  • The email is written to invoke fear or a sense of urgency
  • The email has spelling and grammatical errors
  • Appears to be from an internal source but also has the external email warning in the body of the email
  • Messages references you by your last name, username, or format (“Smith, John”)
  • The IP address is not associated with the agency or organization emailing you

How can you help
Report phishing emails to the USI Help Desk. Forward the phishing email to it@usi.edu with “?phish” in the subject line for awareness and additional review.

Be on the lookout!

What should you do if you think you are a victim?
  • If you have communicated with any of these hackers, stop communicating immediately.
  • If you have given anyone your password, contact the USI IT Help Desk (812-465-1080) for assistance in changing it.
  • And if you have provided any banking information of received or cashed checks, contact Public Safety (812-464-1845) for assistance.
September Payment Plans
September payment plans are available until Friday, September 30. Click the enroll in payment plan button in your TouchNet account to view your options. Check USI.edu/bursar for more information on our payment plan options.

COVID-19 Guidance Updates
The University’s COVID-19 website has been updated to reflect new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and University guidelines related to prevention and reporting.

The most notable changes have to do with self-reporting, contact tracing and quarantine/isolation. In keeping with new CDC guidance released this fall, members of the campus community are no longer required to self-report or quarantine for exposure to COVID-19. The University also is no longer collecting voluntary reporting of vaccination records for students and employees.

ON-CAMPUS RESIDENTS WHO TEST POSITIVE
  • Residents who test positive should self-report
  • After the form is submitted, residents will receive an email from Housing and Residence Life with further instructions.
  • Email Living@usi.edu with questions about COVID-19 guidance for housing residents.

Please read additional updates at USI.edu/covid-19.
Screagle in the Spotlight -  Susanna S.
Hey, everyone! This is my first year as an Orientation Leader. Outside of Orientation leading I am a member of the Honors Program and work part-time at the campus library.

Outside of school I paint, read novels, hang out with friends, and build stick forts with my niece and nephews. A fact about me is that I am a huge Marvel and Harry Potter fan. You can always find me at some secluded picnic table reading a book if I'm not at work or class.
