Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Hope for Healing
You are invited to join us for an Advent Quiet Day on December 4th from 10am-2:30pm, at Trinity Church. During our time together we will lament the broken places in our lives and in our world that are in need of healing and celebrate our journeys to healing and hope. There will be opportunities for small group sharing and multiple options for individual reflection and centering.

Trinity Episcopal Church —
How Firm a Foundation
Thank you to all who have pledged your support to the work of God at Trinity for the coming year. For those who haven’t yet had a chance to submit your pledge, there’s still time. Please know that no pledge is too small. It takes each one of us, doing whatever we can, to support the vibrant ministries of Trinity. Pledge cards can be placed in the Offering Plate at either entrance of the Church or mailed to the Church Office. If you did not receive a pledge card or have misplaced it, you can call the office or email Barbara at office@trintiyhartford.org to have your pledge recorded.

ADULT CHRISTIAN FORMATION
After the 10:00 am Service
“A PEBBLE, A SANDWICH, AND A FEATHER”
On Sunday, December 5, Michelle Horsley will speak to us about three organ pieces. She will tell us about their musical significance, and will share her own intimate experiences with them. She has titled her program “A Pebble, a Sandwich, and a Feather,” certainly an intriguing combination.
As our Director of Music for the past year, Michelle has enriched our worship and broadened our musical horizons. Her Zoom presentation on the origin and meaning of Spirituals last year drew rave reviews from all who attended, and this year we have the added advantage of an in-person forum. The forum will be held in the sanctuary after the 10 o’clock service, and will be live-streamed and recorded as well. We are still working out some of the details, but please save the time and date for this adult forum. It promises to be lively, informative, and fun!

The Sunday Paper Junior
Beginning Sunday December 5th there will be copies of ‘The Sunday Paper Junior’ coloring sheets and crayons available at each entrance to the Sanctuary. Each week the coloring sheet will highlight some aspect of the Scripture for the day and also includes notes to help parents talk to their kids about the theme. Please feel free to let your kids color and otherwise be themselves during the worship service. All are welcome as they are, including kids!

Trinity's 2021 “Giving Tree”
Gifts Due Sunday, 12/12
Thanks to the generosity of our parishioners, the tags on our Giving Tree were snapped up in a flash! What remains is for all the gifts to be returned by Sunday, 12/12 so that they can be passed along to Covenant to Care and Trinity Academy for distribution to the children that week.
Please remember to place your unwrapped gift in a gift bag, attach your tag to the bag, and place it in one of the boxes in the baptistery.
If you have any questions, or have found that you may not be able to fulfill the gift request by 12/12, please contact:

Holy Land Giving Tree -
AFEDJ: Help for Ahli Arab Hospital
The Holy Land Giving Tree is back! The Outreach team will again offer pictures of the needy children of the Diocese of Jerusalem and offer festive olive wood ornaments for your own tree or as a gift for a loved one. We will be supporting again the Ahli Hospital in Gaza where all people are in great need of medicine, electricity and everyday needs. This is our international outreach to a place where our own religion started. Covid 19 has been just as horrible in the Diocese of Jerusalem as here. If you can’t make it to church, we ask that all checks be made out to AFEDJ (American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem) with Ahli Hospital in the memo. Donate at church or send checks to 106 Vista Way, Bloomfield CT 06002. All monies are sent in weekly directly to the AFEDJ center.
Look for our table 3 Sundays : Nov. 28, Dec. 4 and 11 before and after the 10:00 service.
Every little bit helps our brothers and sisters of the Holy Land!

Greening of the Church
Set For December 19
This year’s “greening of the church” will take place after the 10:00 a.m. service on December 19. You’re invited to help with this festive project beginning right after the service, when, our Advent services ended, it’s time to deck the church in its Christmas finery.
It takes many willing hands to decorate our beautiful worship space for Christmastide; plan to be on hand to help with this enjoyable task. Members of our altar and flower guilds will be available to show you what to do.

Upcoming Musical Events in December
Friday, Dec. 3rd, 7:00pm - St. Lucia Festival (hosted at Emanuel Lutheran Church)
Featuring many of our choristers, Emanuel Lutheran Church hosts its annual St. Lucia Festival, a traditional Swedish holiday honoring the 3rd century Christian martyr. The service includes much music and costumed dancing, all offered by children and youth. 311 Capitol Avenue, Hartford.
Sunday, Dec. 5th, 9:00pm - Advent Compline
Join us for a late-night, candle-lit service of choral music in a darkened sanctuary. Compline originates from ancient monastic traditions and is held as the last service before the end of the day. Our Advent Compline service will feature music by Victoria, Tavener, Kodaly, McFerrin, Sheppard, and Beach.
Friday, Dec. 17th, 7:00pm - Blue Christmas
A tradition at Trinity Episcopal Church, this service is intended to be one of comfort for those mourning during the Christmas season.
Saturday, Dec. 18th, 7:00pm - Lessons & Carols
Featuring The Choir School of Hartford and Trinity Episcopal Church Adult Choir, this service is modeled after the traditional service of 9 Lessons and Carols from King's College, with choral anthems responding to each of 9 scripture passages that tell the story of Jesus' birth. Our Lessons & Carols service will highlight under-represented composers and will be a triumphant musical celebration for this most special season.
Friday, Dec. 24th - Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve at Trinity Episcopal Church will include an early service at 5:00pm and a late service at 10:00pm, which will feature the adult choir as well as The Choir School of Hartford singing works by Darke and Joubert, among others. The late service will begin at 9:30pm with an extended prelude of special instrumental and vocal music.
Sunday, Jan. 2nd, 9:00pm - Christmas Compline
Join us for our third monthly service of compline. This late-night service of choral music is held in a darkened sanctuary and will feature Christmas choral works sung in an intimate atmosphere of candles and prayer.
