Greetings Slimstones!

I once fell madly in love with a girl who only had one leg.

Her name was Eileen.

Slim People! How are we? Everybody OK out there? I’m just checking in on you. I hope everybody is fine and dandy.

This Friday we have a gig at Zoll Vineyards in Dutton, VA. This is our first time at Zoll, so we need you Slim Folks to pack up the pack mules and get those jackasses down to Dutton to party down with the Slim Man Band!

Rick O’Rick on keys, John E Coale on drums, Hit Man Howie Z on bongos, Kevin Levi on sax, and we have special guest Michael Gregg sitting in on violin.

He’s my cousin! NFK.

Not Effing Kidding! And he’s good.

He sat in with us this past December at the Rams Head in Annapolis, Maryland, and he sounded so good we decided to do it again this Friday night.

And speaking of the Rams Head, we have a Big Gig at that fabulous club on Saturday night, August the 20th. Saturday night, Slim People!

And Michael is going to sit in on violin. But wait! There’s more!

The Hazelrigg Brothers are going to open the show. Why?

I’m a big fan. George (Giorgio) Hazelrigg has been playing with the Slim Man Band for years, and he put together a trio with his brother Geoff, who plays bass.

They do very cool jazz versions of rock songs. Led Zeppelin. Hendrix. The Police. They play them in a jazz trio setting: piano, acoustic bass, and John O’Reilly on drums.

But wait! There’s more!

Shea Welsh will be playing guitar with the Slim Man Band that night at the Rams Head.

Who’s Shea Welsh?

Well, he’s been…instrumental (pardon the pun!) in the formation of the Slim Man Band. Let me ‘splain…

Shea Welsh is from Baltimore. Or “Smalltimore” as we Baltimorons call it. Everybody seems to know everybody.

And Shea knows the best musicians. East coast and west coast.

When I asked Shea about east coast sax players for the Slim Man Band many years ago, he didn’t hesitate a second. He told me I had to check out Kevin Levi.

Shea said we didn’t even need to rehearse with Kevin. He was that good. Our first gig with Kevin (we call him Chocky) was in Toledo, Ohio, and he played so well, he’s been in the Slim Man Band ever since.

And one final note (another pun!) about Shea?

When I needed a west coast big band to do my Rat Pack Show in Palm Springs a couple years ago?

Shea insisted I hire Paul McDonald. And the Paul McDonald Big Band was simply amazing at that glorious Rat Pack gig at the Riviera Hotel in Palm Springs.

So, I guess what I’m trying to say is, Shea is the Man! A Connector. A guy who knows a guy.

So come out to the Rams Head and see that guy! Guitar Wiz Shea Welsh!

Tickets for the Rams Head and Zoll Vineyards are right here.

We need you to show up, Slim People!

Speaking of showing up, I can’t thank the Mighty People of SlimNation enough for showing up at the Laguna Beach gigs. Both were jam-packed with you good-looking people with above-average taste in music.

The Festival of Arts was very festive for both gigs.

The sultry Saturday in July was Slimsational. And what a wonderful surprise that so many of you showed up on a hot August Monday night!

We had fun. Thanks again. I was able to do both gigs without a stool or crutches, and I can’t tell you how nice it is to have the use of both my legs.

Not sure if you heard, but I broke my left leg back in April. It took 10 screws and a metal plate to put my fractured fibula back together. NFK!

Legs are pretty important. Especially when you want to kick some ass with a smoking hot band!

The new Slim Man single? 3 AM?

It's only been out for 4 weeks and it's already sold well under a million copies!

I did a little lyric video and posted it on YouTube. She's a-so nice! Here's the link:

And finally, the Marlboro Men screenplay that I wrote?

Yes, it got to the semifinals of the International Screenwriters Association screenplay awards. And the quarterfinals of the Nashville Film Festival screenplay competition.

And now, it’s made it to the quarterfinals of the Scriptapalooza screenplay contest! It’s a pretty big contest that’s been running for more than 20 years.

The Top 30 will be announced August 22nd. I'll keep you posted.

I’m pretty proud of this thing! You can get a copy on the Slim Site

PS: Got some fresh tomatoes? Here's a recipe for a quick tomato sauce. I used fresh San Marzano tomatoes from my friend Andy's garden. Delizioso!

Slim Man Cooks a Fresh Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

3 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, smashed with the broad side of a knife and peeled

Crushed red pepper (to taste)

2 cups fresh tomatoes (I use small San Marzanos) quartered, seeds and yellow core removed

Kosher salt

Small handful of fresh basil, snipped with scissors

Take a sauté pan (I use a 12-inch pan) and put it over medium-low heat

Let it warm up for a minute or two

Add the olive oil, let it warm up for a minute or two

Add the garlic and sauté on each side for…a minute or two

Add crushed red pepper (I use about ½ teaspoon)

Add the tomatoes

Add salt to taste (tomatoes need a bit!)

Cook for a couple minutes and give it a gentle stir

Cook for another couple minutes and give it another stir

Add the basil and stir gently

Gently, Slim People! We want the tomatoes to

retain their shape!

Taste for salt and pepper and adjust

That’s it! Put it over pasta, or make a bruschetta, or put it on your oatmeal in the morning.

She’s a so nice!
