Tariffs Update - March 2025

U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered 25 per cent tariffs on all Canadian imports with 10 per cent tariffs reserved for energy resources. Many small businesses and consumers are concerned about the costs of goods increasing and potential impact to jobs.

On March 3rd, 2025, the Petawawa Town Council passed a resolution urging the federal and provincial governments to take all necessary measures to protect Ontario's interests in trade negotiations. The Town of Petawawa will support local businesses, industries and workforce through the Economic Development department, including Shop Local and Buy Canadian campaigns.

In addition to promoting a "Buy Local, Buy Canadian" campaign, the County of Renfrew is also reviewing procurement options for ways to prioritize Canadian supplies in procurement while ensuring fair and transparent trade practices.
