SPECIAL Update August 24, 2021
Important Information

Booster COVID Vaccine 3rd Dose
As some of you may have already been made aware, due to the announcement on August 17, 2021 by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, residents in Long-Term Care Homes, High-Risk Retirement Homes and Elder Care Lodges are eligible to receive a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. All residents at JMPC will be eligible for their third dose of COVID-19 vaccine at least five months after they have received their second dose. There is no upper limit to the dosing interval for third dose.

Why do residents of LTC homes need a third dose?
Based on the recommendations of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and health experts, the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine provides an extra layer of protection against the Delta variant. In light of evidence that shows the immune response in long-term care home residents wanes several months after receiving two COVID-19 vaccine doses, this third booster dose will improve their immunity to a safer level.

Third doses of COVID-19 will be administered as soon as possible at JMPC, once consents for the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine are obtained from residents/POAs.

The goal will be to match their booster dose with the same vaccine as was given to the individual for their first and second doses.

Timing is Important
With influenza season fast approaching, we are also planning the administration of the influenza vaccine. Ideally, LTC residents will receive their flu shots in mid to late October. If a resident receives a COVID-19 vaccine, four weeks must lapse prior to receiving the influenza vaccine. To ensure residents receive a timely influenza vaccine, the third COVID-19 vaccine will need to be administered within a timely manner.
Attention POA for Care/resident: Consent Required
Below is the link to the consent that is required for the resident to receive their third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

If you are the POA for care, please complete as soon as possible and return via email to Emily Sarley – Assistant Manager of Nursing esarley@lennox-addington.on.ca or drop off at the screening desk.

If you are refusing consent, please confirm this via email with Emily Sarley. Or feel free to reach out to Emily via phone. (613-354-3306 ext 7227)

We began our reception desk renovation on Monday August 23. The new desk will be installed over the next 2 days. Their may be some minor disruptions in service but we will be up and functioning on Thursday. Residents are enjoying watching the transformation take place!  This project was funded by the Provincial Government through a Modernization and Efficiency unconditional grant that we received.
