Bits and Pieces

October 5, 2021

I love fall, don’t you? I remember all the Fall Festivals and fairs, wine tasting trips to see the leaves changing colors, the crispness in the air, church sponsored cookouts, and things like that. It was a busy time, and a fun time. As I look at our SVQ calendar, I see that not much has changed…our schedule is chocked full of various classes, camps and events. All we need is YOU, ready to participate.  And if you choose to participate from your home, we’re offering that for you, too. Let me get you excited about some of our events:

Thursday and Friday, LeAnn is teaching the two day mini-camp of Fiberworks! I love this process, and there can be no mistakes because you can keep changing your fabrics and placements until you’re happy with the picture and decide to nail them down (with an iron), and only then do you do any sewing! Use your scraps and get some small cuts of fabrics to fussy cut for your pattern. You get to pick your own Fiberworks pattern, and LeAnn will guide you through the process. She’s an award-winning quilter of varied and unique processes, and she will be offering lots of tips plus techniques. If you’re like me, you’ll continue on and make quite a few of these types of quilts! We had some of her quilts on display at the Rusty Barn Show, and they drew lots of attention and positive comments. So join us and learn the process. But sign up NOW to assure your spot in the camp, and leave your set-ups overnight so you can jump right back in on Friday! We have various patterns/subjects on our pattern wall, too.

SEW SMART, a free event to you, is Sat. morning at 9:30. As announced, our topic will be stabilizers and batting. Know how to pick the exact ones you want/need for your projects to get the look and feel you want. If you still get embroidery puckers, we have a fix for that, too, and I’ll be sharing my personal picks for batting and such, as we all will. You’ll get lots of information, and don’t forget to bring your questions! The foot of the month is the #8 Jeans foot, which I absolutely love. It has gotten me through many jeans hemmings, and if you purchase it on Sat., as a thank you for coming to SEW SMART, we will offer you 30%, not just the standard 25%, off the foot price. We will also give you 10% off the stabilizers and batting you purchase with us Sat. OESD is also offering a special deal for you: spend $79 or more on OESD stabilizers, designs, Isacord threads, and get a FREE holiday CD chocked full of designs for you! This is a “won’t be sorry I attended” event built for you!

Monday is Open Sew Day in the classroom, 9:30-3:30, $10, great company with lots of chatter and a comfy place to work on your own projects. Bring munchies to share if you choose.

Tuesday through Thursday is focused on embroidery projects. On Tuesday, we are offering an Embroidery Open Sew, where you can work on any project, your choice, with Jan here to help you. If you participated in the two day mini- camp with Jan, on the Tiffany Rose Garden pattern (aka the Stained Glass quilt), this is your final class day to put the quilt together with Jan’s help. If you didn’t finish the top, this is a good time to work on that, too. Price for open sew is just $15, and for the Tiffany finishing class, it’s $35. But sign up and let us know what you intend. On Wed., our embroidery focus will be on the Claudia Dinnel pattern, Through the Woods. Jeri will be teaching this two day class, going over the rough spots and offering lots of tips and techniques. Price for this two day camp (Wed. and Thursday) included the pattern. If you want the class and already have the pattern, we will adjust the price for you. Since this one is NOT a quilt in the hoop structure, the class will benefit you tremendously.

Keep checking our schedule for the classes on the website: www.sunvalleyquilts.com. There’s a ton of info. to be found there, and you can also sign and pay for classes through the online site.

As for Q’nique---if you have a longarm from Q’nique, from the Cutie frame up to the Continuum frame, and of course a machine setting on the frame (!!!) you’ll want to sign up for Grace/Q’nique’s  FANTASTIC FALL FESTIVAL taking place via your computer, from Oct. 7 through 15! This is their second festival and it’s bigger and better than ever. They will be giving away $45,000 in giveaways, and we hope you’re one of the winners! Additionally, each day will sponsor different speakers, classes, tutorials, workshops, tips, helpful techniques and more! This will be a BIG deal for you, and a chance to advance your quilting skills plus love of your machine. Go now, to www.graceframe.com and sign up, learn how to work the dashboard through their BINGO game, and you’ll be all set for the start of the event. If you’re still in the thinking mode for a Q’nique, this event will be the answer to your questions. So join us all, knowing we’re watching it with you!

Our special panel of the week, in shop or online, for just $6, is pictured here. Another special for you this week, is the Little Book of Feet, a small index card sized book, which you can keep with you and/or your machine, and mark off all the BERNINA feet which you currently have. There is a very brief discussion of the intended use plus a picture of the feet, so that you can confidently add to your collection. It’s also a great gifty-stocking stuffer at under $8.00. I expect we’ll have to re-order these quickly!

Hope your week is happy and fulfilling, that our delightfully cooler weather stays with us, that you’ll join is for at least some of our events/classes, and that Mr. Murfee will continue to behave himself for as long as possible! Hope to see you soon.
