Hale Winter Welcome Night

Thursday, Dec. 15, 5 p.m.-8 p.m.

Join us for our inaugural winter open house! This evening of community, food and fun is a chance for all current and prospective Hale families to check out what our students have been up to at school this year.

You can visit Scooter City in the gym (see recommended times on the flyer), grab a bite to eat in the new cafeteria, browse the book fair, hear a story by the fire in the library, take a tour of the building and more throughout the night. Click here for more details!

Book Fair - Moon Palace Books

Now through Thursday, Dec.15

The Hale PTA is hosting a Book Fair in partnership with Moon Palace Books, an independent MPS parent-owned bookstore in South Minneapolis. There are two ways to shop:

Virtual Book Fair (through Dec. 14)

Shop online at Moon Palace Books through Wednesday. Enter "Hale School" in the INSTRUCTIONS box at checkout. Online orders can be shipped anywhere or picked up at Moon Palace at 3032 Minnehaha Ave. Click here for teacher wish lists and more on the Hale Book Fair webpage.

In Person Book Fair (Dec. 15)

Buy books from Moon Palace in the Hale Library on Thursday from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. during Winter Welcome Night. We will also have Hale Bear book bags for sale as well as complimentary bookmarks and a wrapping station for gifts you purchase. Cards and cash will be accepted.

Monday, Dec. 12, 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at McRae Park

Wednesday, Dec. 14 - Chipotle in Richfield

Hale Family Movie Matinee

Sunday, January 8 at 2 p.m. (Doors open at 1:30 p.m.)

Join other Hale families for a movie matinee at the Parkway Theater (4814 Chicago Ave.) on Sunday, January 8. Tickets will be $5 per seat with cash or check or $5.25 with card (including processing fee). Watch your student's backpack this week for movie and ticket ordering information!

Art Adventure Volunteers Needed

February event - no experience required!

Art Adventure is a program that engages students in the classroom with artwork from the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Volunteers lead students in a 30-minute discussion, talking and learning about a set of artworks. Information about each artwork is provided by the MIA along with training on how to lead the conversation. If you like to hear kids thinking out loud and haven’t had a chance to volunteer yet this year, Art Adventure is the perfect opportunity for you!

Art Adventure sessions at Hale will be in February, and we need enough volunteers to fill 39 sessions. If you're interested, you will need to attend ONE hour-long training session virtually, in person at MIA or in person at Hale or Field (exact locations and times TBD).

The WE Committee meets on the last Wednesday of each month. There is no meeting in December. Our next meeting will be on January 25 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hale Media Center. New participants are always welcome to attend.

Volunteer Opportunity

MPS Community Education is looking for any parents, grandparents or community members interested in teaching after-school classes at Hale and/or Field for the upcoming winter session. The specific hope is to hold a Dinosaur Arts & Crafts class on Mondays at Hale from Jan. 2 through March 10, but they need a teacher! If you're interested in teaching this class, or a class on another subject, please contact Hale & Field Community Education Coordinator Adam Clark ([email protected]).
