Back To School Bashes Distribute over 400 Backpacks!

Last week, Just A Start resident students were delighted to receive backpacks filled with school supplies just in time for the first day of school! Thanks to Life Science Cares and their member partners, over 400 backpacks were assembled and distributed at two events held at York Street and Rindge Tower, where students were able to pick up the backpacks, school supplies, rent laptops and sign up for library cards. We are so grateful for this generous support of Just A Start families. We're wishing all families, students and staff a happy and healthy 2022-23 school year!

Deep gratitude to: Life Science Cares, Chroma, EyePoint Pharmaceuticals, Lake Street Advisors, LaVoieHealthScience, O'Neill Branch Libaray, Roivant and scPharmaceuticals.

Squirrelwood Apartments Project Wins Best Renovation & Restoration Award

Engineering News-Record New England, a regional publication dedicated to engineering and construction news announced its group of Best Projects winners last month. This year’s judges selected 18 projects from across the region in the main categories, and projects were evaluated on the ability of the project team to overcome challenges, contribution to the industry and community, safety and construction and design quality. The Squirrelwood project included substantial renovations and the addition of two new buildings built to the Passive House standard. This was a collaborative effort of an amazing team including Callahan Construction Managers and Davis Square Architects. Many thanks to Callahan Construction Managers for submitting the project. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

MEANINGFUL MOMENT

Lori Segall is a Mobility Mentor in the Families Moving Forward program, a three-year program that connects Cambridge parents with a personal mentor and supportive connections to help them reach their family's goals in health, housing, finances, education and work. Resourceful, flexible and intuitive are just a few words that describe Lori's dedicated approach to working with her mentees.

This month, Lori helped a single mother who was going through a debilitating and challenging time. She expressed interest in wanting to learn how to ride a bike, but wasn't confident enough to ride on her own. A foundation of trust and Lori's coaching helped her to get on the bike and feel the wind against her cheeks, which then led to her getting out of bed in the morning again. Thank you for all that you do, Lori!

Our mission is to promote equity by creating access to stable housing and building pathways to economic opportunity.
