A National Philanthropic sorority focusing on art, literature, music and speech & hearing.

Hello Jane,

Hello sisters,

March is finally here, and we have an opportunity for a fresh start! The month of March brings spring, when we observe the return of nature following the winter months. It’s also a reminder that we need to begin thinking about our Pre-Convention Reports and attending National Convention… yay!!

Several chapters will be having their last fundraising events over the next two months and disbursing their year-end project funds as our fiscal year draws to a close. This is an excellent moment to observe the extent to which your chapter's gift-giving is advancing the fields of art, literature, music, speech and hearing. Please remember to donate to our Long-Term Project in addition to your chapters' worthwhile projects that are in your communities.

Soon, our District Officers will be working to create your chapter's PCR, which you should get by the end of the month. I am excited to see the outcome of all your efforts, and I am confident that this will be another successful year for Psi Iota Xi.

It is also an excellent opportunity for your chapter to plan to attend this year's National Convention in Indianapolis. The Convention Packet should have been received by your chapter president; if not, please let me know. Hotel reservations are filling up quickly, so if you haven't already, make your reservation soon. I hope you plan to join this amazing weekend of “Share the Past, Experience Our Future.”

Those who attended the 2024 National Convention received a TUIT Token on Sunday after the convention closed. Throughout the year, a select few have also received TUIT Tokens from your National President. Make sure you know where your TUIT Token is located and be sure you carry it with you to this year’s convention in Indianapolis. You will exchange your token for 1 raffle entry for an exclusive prize.

Please reach out to me with any comments or concerns and thank you for all the hard work that you do in the name of Psi Iota Xi.

Loyally,

Mickie Hansen

Symphony News

Through the generous contributions of the Endowment Fund of Miss Elsie I. Sweeney of the Epsilon Chapter, Columbus, Indiana, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, can provide students with the opportunity to hear live orchestra performances at no cost.

Your chapter received the symphony information through email.  Enclosed was the application form for tickets and schedule of performances to be distributed to the schools in your area. Maybe they couldn’t schedule anything that far in advance. If you no longer have that information, please email terriresler@psiiotaxi.org

There are still shows available to attend. Reach out to all your area schools, especially those in the northern and southern part of the districts, even if its not in your town. Communication between your chapter and the schools are essential. We do not want these tickets to go unused. With your help, we will work with the Symphonies and the schools to arrange the handling of the tickets.

ATTENTION CHAPTER TREASURERS

Who’s excited?! Well, I am! Completing our Pre-Convention Report shows a snapshot of our financial contributions to our community and allows us, as an organization, to see the bigger picture of what Psi Iota Xi is doing to help those less fortunate about us. It’s also necessary as these are needed to complete the filing of our Group Tax Return with the IRS.

District Officers will be emailing each chapter Treasurer their Pre-Convention Report at the end of March. It’s our gift to you, and I’m sure you will be eagerly awaiting its arrival!

Whether it’s your first time completing your chapter’s PCR or if you are a seasoned pro, I wanted to remind you of a few things that are very important as you complete your PCR.

  • Close your books as of April 30, 2025. The transactions being reported are for the year May 1, 2024 – April 30, 2025.

  • Microsoft Excel must be used to complete the electronic PCR. We have found that if it is opened on any other application, problems occur with the formulas that are in the Workbook.

  • There are locked cells in the Workbook. Do not try to change these. If you notice something isn’t calculating correctly, please let your District Officer know.

  • Did your chapter donate to the Long-Term Project? Remember to put this in your contributions on the Project Fund tab under Speech & Hearing.

Last, but most important, submit your PCR to your District Officer by May 10, 2025. You’ve got this! But… if you have any questions, please reach out to your District Officer for guidance.

I appreciate the time and dedication it takes to be a chapter officer. If you are a chapter Treasurer, I am especially grateful for your attention to detail and accuracy in completing your chapter’s PCR on time.

Let’s do this!

Loyally,

Mona Knight

ATTENTION CHAPTER PRESIDENTS

The spring mailing packet from National Council was mailed Monday 2/24/25 to Chapter Presidents; within the mailing there are several letters that need to be read at your next chapter meeting.

The following items are in the packet:

  • Psi Ote of the Year Letter/Application – National Conductress
  • Lifetime Achievement Award Letter/Application – National Conductress
  • Helicon Article Request – National Editor
  • National Project Proposals – National Project Chair
  • National Bylaw Letter – National Vice President
  • 2025-2026 - Candidates for National Office – National Vice President
  • President Letter for PCR – District Officer

National Council is aware of our organizations need to be resourceful when it comes to reducing our spending. Choosing to mail our packets verses receiving the information electronically is costly. Results from the recent survey that was completed by the membership showed that 70% of those that responded agreed with receiving communication solely via email between National Council and our chapters. Soon all chapters will need to be prepared to receive correspondence electronically.

If you have concerns or questions, please contact any National Council Member.

NORTHWEST DISTRICT

Greetings All,

March brings with it the promise of spring and the rebirth of the world around us. We trade the grey skies for the return of the sunshine, it is also the signal that state meetings are on the horizon and that national convention is just around the corner. These meetings and convention are times of refreshing and reenergizing for both our chapters and our sorority. We have time to share in a different way with our chapter sisters and connect or reconnect with sisters from other chapters. We are inspired by what we learn and who we meet both at state meetings and the national convention. We carry this inspiration back to our chapters and it equips us with new ideas or infuses us with new energy to approach a tried-and-true project.

One of the absolute best things about being a district officer is the opportunity to visit chapters. I bet you thought I was going to say PCR time! PCR time is a wonderful way to get to know more about the we do as Psi Oles in my district, but the chapter visits hold a special place in my heart. This year I had the honor of sharing a meeting with the ladies from Delphi, Flora, Winamac, and Crown Point.

These chapters varied in size of chapters, in the size of the communities they serve and their projects. What was the same in each chapter was their dedication to Psi iota Xi and to serving others. Each chapter had members of various ages and years in Psi Otes who pool their experience and talents to work together for the common good of their communities and to meet the goals of their chapter. It was wonderful to see the admiration of the newer members for the seasoned members and the respect the seasoned members showed for the new ideas brought by the newer members. I was particularly struck by a newer member in one of the chapters when the subject of state meeting and national convention came up. She was making a general comment but speaking more specifically to the two pledges who were to be installed at their next meeting. This member shared that at our chapter meetings we see the effect of our work in our community, but at state and national you truly see the far-reaching impact of Psi Iota Xi everyone should attend! What is the old saying? Out of the mouths of babes – or in this case a newer Psi Ote. I couldn’t have put it better myself!! Have a great spring and I hope to see you at state meeting and national convention!

FUNDRAISER & EVENT INVITATIONS

Have you ever wished you could invite all Psi Ote sisters to your chapter's fundraiser or special event?

If you are planning an event or fundraiser (in person or virtual) and would like to share your invitation with Psi Ote Sisters from other chapters, let us know. The newsletter is great way to reach many sisters and hopefully increase your attendance or sales!

Electronic money transfer apps like Venmo plus virtual platforms like Facebook Live make it possible for even our most distant sisters to participate in another chapter's fundraisers with ease. You can support your sisters across the organization, and you might even get a few ideas for your own chapter!

Advertising in the newsletter is easy, just email janepatton@psiiotaxi.org and she will do the rest.

CHAPTER HAPPENINGS

Beta Phi, Shelbyville, IN, combined dinner and business at their February meeting.

Phi, Huntington, IN, recently held their story time and bingo at the Huntington Library. Local author, Mel Jones, read her recently published book to the children followed by winter bingo. Each child received a signed copy of Ms. Jones' newest book to take home.

The students attended a viewing of Star Wars: A New Hope while the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra accompanied the film with live music.

Gamma Zeta, Ossian...Supporting Music in their Community

The members of Gamma Zeta, Ossian, IN, recently purchased a new orchestra gong for their local high school band to replace one that was broken.

They also support the summer concert series at Archbold Wilson Amphitheater in Ossian and are planning a concert to celebrate their chapter's 80th anniversary this year.

Iota Lambda, Ferdinand, IN, helped purchase drums for the music class at Ferdinand Elementary. Pictured are Psi Otes, LouAnn and Nicole, with Katie Stone and some of her students showcasing the drums.
