FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

Revisiting Frederick Douglass's Ideals

In his recent opinion piece in Newsweek magazine (9/14/21), Dr. Robert George, the McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence and Director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University, writes eloquently about Frederick Douglass, former slave and abolitionist leader, and the relevance of his views to America's political situation today.

Entitled "Let Frederick Douglass Point Our Way Forward," Dr. George highlights Douglass's reliance on traditional Biblical and Western ideals for his opposition to slavery and the need today for us to rely on those same ideals to fight neo-
segregation presenting itself as "anti-racism" and to stand for free speech.

Praxis Circle maintains that one's worldview
Dr. Robert P. George
plays an essential role in this battle of ideals and it's more important than ever to understand both one's own and others' views in order to engage with it effectively.

Keep an eye on our website for much, much more from Dr. George!

Ideas are not intellectuals' toys: ideas have consequences,
for good and for ill, in what even intellectuals sometimes
call "the real world."
