Synopsis: Harriet Tubman’s heroism on the Underground Railroad is legendary, but few know about the extraordinary amphibious assault she led in the American Civil War and her 30-year pursuit of military recognition. Based on extensive research for her historical novel The Tubman Command (Arcade 2020), Professor Cobbs will tell the thrilling story of Harriet Tubman’s successful career as a spy behind the lines of our nation’s bloodiest war.
Presenter: Elizabeth Cobbs holds a PhD in American History from Stanford University and is the Melbern Glasscock Chair in American History at Texas A&M. She is a prize-winning historian, novelist, and documentary filmmaker. Cobbs is the author of eight books, including The Hello Girls: America’s First Women Soldiers and The New York Times bestseller The Hamilton Affair. She previously served on the State Department’s Historical Advisory Committee and on the jury for the Pulitzer Prize in History.
