Dear Lake South Family,

I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. It is a privilege and an honor to serve with you as Superintendent. Although I spent most of my career on the predecessor, Chicago Southern District, I don’t take anything for granted. I have walked with many of you but have so much to learn in the new Lake South District that I am viewing everything and everyone with new eyes. I’m looking forward to meeting those of you I have not met and making a fresh start with those I have known before. I am eager to learn what you would like to teach me and eager to share helpful information that I have amassed over the years.

As I think of a theme for our work together, “Doing the Work of Christ” comes to my heart. I receive this inspiration from the scripture in John 14:12:

Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.

We are a people who believe in Christ and love the Church. One of the most important lessons I have learned over my pastoral career is that what matters most is doing the work of Christ. We do so many things as a church. We must make sure that we are doing what Christ exemplified and called, sent, commissioned, and commanded us to do. This is the work that will produce the most effective, impactful, and enduring fruit for God’s Kingdom on earth.

I look forward to meeting with you and hearing about the work you are doing and the lives you are touching. I deeply appreciate the time, energy, and resources you give and all the ways you sacrifice for the church. I love hearing your stories and look forward to sharing what you are doing with our broader connection; so if you are doing something special, please let me know.

To get to know everyone better, I have times planned to meet everyone. Called Lake South District Encouraging Conversations, these will be times of sharing and encouragement on our journey for Christ. I invite laity to sign up to meet with me first come first served basis on Aug 5th and Sept 2nd from 10:00 am - noon at 10010 S. Union Ave, Chicago, IL. (Lake South District Home Office). Click here for the sign up. During their interviews, I will meet with clergy over the next two months We will do more clergy and laity group meetings next year.

May God see and remember you as you serve.

God bless and keep you,

Dr. Audrea F. Nanabray
