Project Spotlight
Permit Required Confined Space Entry and Rescue Training
Hygieneering recently performed Permit Required Confined Space Entry and Rescue training for maintenance technicians at a manufacturer of phenolic resins and thermoset molding materials. Our Experienced OSHA Instructors will come to your site to train your affected employees. The goal of our training is to ensure your affected employees acquire the understanding, knowledge, and skills that are necessary to safely perform assigned duties as members of the Permit Required Confined Space Entry and Rescue team.

Our training covers permit vs. non-permit required confined spaces, what hazards are encountered in a confined space, the hazardous conditions that would prevent entry, atmospheric air testing techniques, how to respond to an emergency, what personal protective equipment (PPE) may need to be worn, what equipment will be needed, permit requirements, responsibilities/roles of team members and how to recognize symptoms of overexposure of air contaminants. Our training also includes procedures and techniques for entry rescue and the importance of having a rescue plan in place. Proper training can prevent employee injuries and deaths by covering OSHA’s confined space requirements along with ANSI and NFPA guidelines.

Lung Cancer Awareness Month
Mitigating Lung Cancer Risks Within the Workplace

This annual event is intended to educate the public on lung cancer risk factors, treatment, and prevention. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more people die from lung cancer than any other cancer. While personal factors—such as smoking—can increase lung cancer risks, certain work-related exposures can also make employees more vulnerable to lung conditions (including cancer). Chronic, long-term exposure to respiratory irritants associated with workplace operations and maintenance tasks such grinding, welding, cutting, torching, drilling, spraying, painting, mixing, and blending can generate airborne respiratory hazards. Uncontrolled exposure to dusts, gases, vapors, metal fumes, dirt, asbestos, silica, formaldehyde and other hazardous chemicals can cause workers to develop lung diseases.

If your employees are exposed to irritants on the job, take these steps to protect their lungs:

  • Have a Certified Industrial Hygienist or other qualified health and safety expert routinely assess your workplace for exposures that may contribute to occupational lung and health conditions
  • Provide employees with all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) when working near respiratory irritants and train them on the proper use of this PPE.
  • Educate workers on the risks and severity of occupational lung conditions and proper work practices to minimize exposure
