Expanding Access to Affordable Care in Eagle County, Colorado
Ross Brooks, CEO & patient

Mountain Family Health Centers has started renovations on a new Community Health Center in Avon, Colorado, which will be open for new patients in early 2023.

The new integrated health center will provide access to affordable medical, dental, behavioral, and pharmacy services for patients in the Eagle River Valley.

Mountain Family currently provides integrated care in Edwards, Colorado, and will be moving to the new location in Avon (230 Chapel Square) in early January 2023. The Avon clinic is easily accessible and conveniently located near an ECO Transit bus stop, enabling Mountain Family to care for up to 4,000 patients in Eagle County. Many in Eagle County will be familiar with the location, as it was previously an urgent care facility operated by Vail Health.

The new Community Health Center is the culmination of strong partnerships with Vail Health, Eagle County, the Colorado Health Foundation, and many additional partners.

Omicron COVID Boosters Are Here
Matt Percy, MD, Co-Chief Medical Officer, Rifle Site Medical Director

I last wrote an update for our July 2022 newsletter on COVID vaccines and updates. At that time, I was excited about that vaccines for the original strain of COVID-19 are available for anyone six months and older and second boosters available for the highest risk people.

Just three months later, now I'm happy to share that the Omicron Boosters are available.

You may have heard that new booster shots which are designed to protect against the latest variants of COVID were recently approved under Emergency Use Authorization. The new booster shot is a bivalent vaccine, meaning that it targets both the original strain and Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5, which became the dominant subvariants in the United States over the summer. The previous booster formulation only protected against the original version of the virus. The bivalent vaccine replaces the previous booster as the recommended option for anyone five and older, but is not approved to be given as a primary series.

Anyone five and older who is at least two months out from their most recent dose is eligible and recommended to receive the bivalent booster and I recommend you get it to protect yourselves, your family and our community as we enter the fall and winter season where respiratory illnesses tend to be more common. Mountain Family Health Centers has these vaccines available for patients with appointment.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Emily Borkovec, MMS, PA-C, Basalt Site Medical Director

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the time each year when we try to get the word out about the importance of breast cancer screening and show support for those affected by breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer, accounting for nearly two million cases globally each year. Early detection is key, which is why self-beast exams, clinical breast exams, and routine screenings with mammography are so important.

The CDC recommends screening mammography once every two years for women ages 50-74 unless additional risk factors are present. Learn more about potential risk factors here.

Talk to your provider today about breast cancer screening and prevention.
